    - Wonderful Horses, Terrific Tour!

    Fosshestar image
Awesome experience at Fosshestar. We had ridden horses previously, including a few times in Iceland, but never had the complete experience that we did with this tour (which included brushing the horses, helping to saddle them and after the ride, feeding them some treats and spending a little time with them). The horses were beautiful and friendly. Our tour guide Anna was terrific and was great in guiding us through the entire experience. During the ride, she led us through a number of times where the horses were allowed to trot/tolt which we really liked. She also took pictures and a video of our ride which were emailed to us afterwards. Great tour for those stopping in Isafjordur as a port on a cruise (they will pick you up near the tender pier and drive you to the farm) Truly an exceptional experience and would highly recommend. 3. 5.0 Wild Westfjords (197 reviews)
    - Highly Recommended Personal Guided Experience
    Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM City Tours • Multi-day Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Day Trips
    Wild Westfjords image
Were were in Isafjordur for a one-day visit on a cruise. The ship's tours were both expensive and the large coaches could not visit many of the more unique sights and villages that a smaller vehicle could reach. We were two couples that shared this tour with 3 other couples (10 people total). The Wild Westfjords van was immediately adjacent to our ship's gangway. Our guide/driver shared many personal stories with the group, we saw an unexpected special event (an Icelandic sand castle competition by the lake!), and a special visit to our drive's home & farm where he raises sheep and collects eider down. After these enjoyable and unexpected side excursions, we headed to the main attraction, Dynjandi Waterfalls, where we had sufficient time to climb the entire path up to the top waterfall. An excellent excursion with an up-close and personal perspective from a guide that obviously loves to share his stories and community life with visitors. Highly recommended. See more..
  4. 5.0 Isafjordur Guide (196 reviews)
    - Fish, Fish and Fish
Saturday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Cultural Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Private Tours • Food Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Isafjordur Guide image
At the last minute, my husband and I realized that Isafjordur was in our path for the day and sent a message to Helga. She was flexible and made the tour work for our schedule. She was very informative and made us aware of the history and culture of the area. Without a doubt, we would have never gain such a perspective without her. She painted a picture (and even had pictures) to bring the village to life. Highly recommend this tour if you're in the area. See more..

FABULOUS! Beyond our expectations. Private active group of 4 of us, spent an amazing day with Oli. Top of the mountain, top of the world in his 4 wheel drive, with breathtaking views, a climb to the top of Djnjandi Falls, can’t say enough. Thank you for the best time ever! See more..
  6. 5.0 Lakitours (78 reviews)
    - Best whale watching in all of Iceland
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Boat Tours
    Lakitours image
So my fiancé and I had already been on two other whale watching excursions before booking this one and we didn’t see any whales at all in Reykjavik or Husavik. The town of Holmavik itself is very small but what that provides is a much more intimate experience since this is the only whale watching boat in town. Judith and Captain Mousey(sp?) were awesome and we were able to find two beautiful humpback whales! The boat is also small so there we maybe 8 other people with us which was not the case in the crowded whale watching boats in Husavik and Reykjavik. It was such a pleasure to listen to Judith talk about whales and whale conservation. She is so delightful and so passionate about what she does I could listen to her talk about whales all day. You can tell she truly loves what she does and it’s a joy to witness. Highly HIGHLY recommend! See more..

    - Excellent day in the Westfjords!
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 12:00 AM Bike Tours • Gear Rentals • Private Tours
    Westfjords Adventures image
What a great day with Maja in the Westfjords. She gave us a thoughtful insider’s look at life in her community of Patreksfjordur, along with a spectacular tour of Latrabjarg, Raudasandur, Melanes, and more. She’s so knowledgeable about the natural history of her corner of Iceland, and gave us enough time to explore on our own, since we were the only two people on the tour. We also appreciated that this company is a women-owned enterprise! It was one of our best days during a two-week trip, and the beautiful weather made it truly amazing. See more..

    Dokkan Brugghús image
Our micro brewery is a small family business founded in Isafjorður in Octorber 2017 merely for the purpose to make local craft beer and the Westfjords really needed one. Then our first beer was made in the early summer of 2018. The brewery is located at Sindragata 11 but that’s were all of our products are made. See more..

    - Highly Enjoyable Local Tour

    Bstours image
We got off of our cruise ships with no plans. We saw this 3 hour tour that sounded interesting so we did it. We could not have been any happier. Our driver Bjorgvin has live in Isafjodur his whole life and shared all kinds of interesting information with the 6 of us on the tour. We went to a small fishing town nearby that was beautiful! Then on our way back Bjorg took us by his house and told us all about how locals live and survive through the long winter. We couldn’t have been happier coming across this intimate enjoyable experience. See more..

    Grimsey Island Drangsnes image
Amazing and remote place to visit. Summer ferry ride from Dalvík was fun both ways with many dolphins and a Humpback whale observed at close range! The Island was great. We had a nice 7 mile hike that almost circumnavigated the Island, including walking into the arctic circle! We saw many species of birds, including more Puffins than you can imagine! This is a full day so plan on staying in or around Dalvík the night after the trip. See more..

  15. 5.0 Svalvogar (6 reviews)
    - The road not taken... :-)
Spent More than 3 hours Biking Trails
    Svalvogar image
The Westfjords in general is less populated and with fewer tourists, but Svalvogar is truly the road not taken. It's hard to say what I liked most - the colours of the mountains, an old abandoned house, the rocky coastline, a lighthouse in the middle of nowhere. It was really cool to go under the cliffs, and the blue blue creeks with waves crashing against them made for the perfect icing on the cake! See more..

I'm a very adventurous but slightly disabled person. I found myself in Isafjordur in goodcweathervwithca daaycspare I rang Gunnii Isafjordur atv on a Sunday morning at about 09:30. After some discussion onvthecphonecwevarrangedvto meet at his office at 10:15.I was quickly suited and helmeted and we were ready for the off!after 3-4km it was clear that I was struggling to maintain a safe course on my atv, so we agreed to leave my machine by the roadside for collection later while Gunni took me on the rest of the tour as a pillion in his machine.all these discussions were handled very sensitively with me in full control of the management of the risks I was prepared to take and I still completed a great tour of the Isafjordur area See more..

  20. 4.5 Borea Adventures (241 reviews)
    - The Perfect Iceland Adventure!
    Sightseeing Tours
    Borea Adventures image
Wow, what a pleasant surprise! I booked a 6 day kayak tour, hoping for the best. And honestly, the best is what I got! All of the paddlers, 4 of us clients and the guide, were competent and prepared paddlers. The tour was wonderful. A combination of tent camping and staying in amazing historical and remote buildings. The setting was what I had dreamed of. Wildlife sightings were abundant. Brendan Jackson, our guide, was safe and knowledgable with out being the least bit stifling. I'd paddle with him anytime! They also lead hikes and backpacking trips, day and half day kayak tours, skiing and Arctic Fox photography expeditions in the winter. I'm sure that there is more as well. Finally, the company is owned by local Icelandic folks and the inclusion of culture and history was a significant bonus on the tour! See more..
  21. 4.5 Vigur Island (80 reviews)
    - Do this, you won’t be disappointed.
    Islands
    Vigur Island image
A most enjoyable visit to this private island. We met the owners, eider down farmers and their son, who took us on a small tour of their island and explained how eider duck down is “farmed”. More like collected and processed using decades old methods. They also have a small cafe offering coffee, a home baked treat (ours was a rhubarb tart) and a small gift shop. While on the island we saw lots of eider ducks and ducklings, other types of ducks, seals and puffins. Hopefully some of my puffin shots will be added once I return home. This was the best experience we’ve had so far in Iceland. Lots of history and most gracious hosts. See more..
  22. 4.5 Hot Pots (54 reviews)

    Hot Pots image
What a gem and great idea of having hot pots by the sea for your delight! While exploring the Westfjords, I stopped in Drangsnes to find the Hot Pots. They are so easy to find, just on the road across the local church. They are clean and offer a beautiful view over Steingrimsfjord. On the other side of the road they have free showers and a place to change. Bring your swimsuit, a towel and make you happy at this amazin place. Hot Pots it's an amazing site. Love it so much!! Even if the puffins are out to sea, there are thousands of birds to see. THe views and location are worth the drive. A nice mellow hike takes you up along the cliff edge and you can make it as long or short a walk as you like. The trail goes all the way to Rauðisandur. See more..
  24. 4.5 Osvor Maritime Museum (34 reviews)
    - Must visit for all interested in local history
    Military Museums
    Osvor Maritime Museum image
The museum is a replica of an old fishing station. The guide was dressed the part in clothes made of sheepskin and was a fountain of knowledge about the lives of the fishermen (and women) who used to stay there for the fishing season late 19th and early 20th century. Life was very tough and many of the fishermen perished fishing in the open boats not even able to swim. I brought my teen sons with me who were amazed to learn that some of the fishermen had been their age. We certainly will be reading Jón Kalmann Stefánsson's book Heaven and Hell which gives a good account of what life was like for the young men sent to these fishing stations. A moving visit especially as this was the life of some of my ancestors. See more..
  25. 4.5 The Old Bookstore (28 reviews)

    The Old Bookstore image
We stayed for 3 nights in Flateyri in the apartment above the bookstore. We were a family of 5 so we had all the apartment for ourselves. The decoration is very original and deeply rooted in the history of this bookstore, the family who owns it and Flateyri. The host was very welcoming and we appreciated as a nice touch a fridge and cupboards filled for the breakfasts. The views on the port and the mountains above the village are astounding. See more..
  26. 4.5 Simbahollin Bike and Horse Rental (27 reviews)
    - Great little coffee house with fantastic bikes

Simbahollin Bike and Horse Rental image
The perfect base for a day in Thingeyri. There's a really chilled atmosphere at the coffee house which does great waffles and (bizarrely) lamb tagine. They also have fantastic mountain bikes. We took on the Svalvogar circuit - a spectacular but challenging 8 hour route. I've done a fair bit of cycling before (mainly on the road) but there were some sections I had to get off to push! But well worth the effort for some beautiful views you would otherwise struggle to see (unless you take the horse option). A day we won't forget! See more..

  30. 4.5 Bolafjall (11 reviews)
    - An amazing view of arctic blue
    Spent < 1 hour Mountains
    Bolafjall image
We visited Bolafjall in mid-June and the access road was closed to vehicles. Don't let that stop you! The hike up and back is 7 km total and half of that is all downhill. The views are spectacular and it is so quiet up there. We could hear sound of the birds as they flew right overhead, like miniature F-18's. Don't miss this - fantastic! See more..
