Sure, it’s a bit rainy here. But a lush tropical paradise needs water—otherwise you wouldn’t see such brilliant flowers everywhere. The black-sand beaches provide contrast to the riot of color everywhere else. Nature-lovers can see many of Fiji’s indigenous species, especially in Bouma National Heritage Park (where you should also stop at Bouma Falls).

My partner and I dove with Pela and Frank aboard a group charter. I’ve completed dives in a variety of locations with a variety of companies and various conditions. I can without a doubt in my mind, say that Taveuni Ocean Sports is hands down the best company with which I have done a charter to date. I have yet to see a more professional organization and an organization more caring of its divers. What amazed me the most was the care Frank took in reassuring my partner and easing her concerns with the conditions that unnerved her slightly, as she had not yet faced a current previously, while diving. She had also some trouble on a previous dive the week prior with equalization. Frank ensured he oversaw the dive according to her comfort level, resulting in a smooth dive, free of any issues. Between dives, he took the time to educate us on the marine ecosystem we would encounter and brought along an underwater writing kit to explain the names of the various species we were encountering. While TOS could easily charge a ton more for their dives, they keep it extremely affordable, especially relative to other dive companies in the area. To say I was impressed is an understatement. I can’t thank Frank and Pela enough. These dives were priceless when considering the quality of the crew and the experience they provided. We arrived to Viani Bay on our sailing catamaran on a beautiful clear and sunny afternoon. We were soon ashore to meet Marina and Jone who were delightful and helped arrange a diving itinerary especially to see the White Wall at its optimum viewing condition. We did several dives, each one perfectly timed and an amazing experience we rate as some of the best diving we have ever done! We spent time with Jone snorkeling in the Coral Rehabilitation Area and enjoyed a fine meal which showcased Marina’s culinary creativity in bringing her garden to the table. The premises are relaxing and well blended into the local environment making one feel at once part of the local community and a welcomed guest free to explore at leisure. One of our 4 divers was very hesitant and newly qualified. Clare stepped her through every process to develop her confidence and allowed her to have a wonderful experience, with a life time of diving to look forward too. After a 15 minute drive up a windy road, we arrived at what I envision as the garden of Eden. Complete silence, stunning views, and the most tranquil place to see the best views in taveuni island They then gave us a walking tour of their garden and spice garden - and prepares the most amazing drinks for us Next was a 3 course lunch with desert. We had this amazing lunch - fresh salad, muffins, bread sticks, and one of the best lasagna dishes ever that Helena prepares in a kitchen the size of a postage stamp, amazing! We got our PADI Open Water Dive Certification at Salt Diver with Ian. We were blown away by our experience and the people. We felt so well looked after the entire time, and it was such a great learning environment. The equipment was in great condition and the open water dives were beautiful. This has got to be one of the best places in the world to learn how to scuba dive. Once we got certified, we went to several dive sites on the nearby Rainbow Reef and had the best day of our entire trip to Fiji. On same day we did the 3 fall hike, we went to this natural water slide and did indeed do the slide. Low-ish water level but no bruises from the rock slide! One of our youngish companions did get a bruise. An adventure where it was primarily locals enjoying. (I'm definitely not young and was able to do this).
