Amazing tour of an amazing facility. Our tour guide (Johnny) was knowledgeable, professional and enthusiastic. We saw so many animals and it is great to know that they are all rescue animals, so not like a regular zoo. They take in about 1,000 distressed animals per year and most of the animals we see are the ones who cannot be sent back to the wild for health reasons. This was one of the best tours I have done in all my visits to Costa Rica, I highly recommend it. We took a taxi from Peurto Viejo to the facility, about a ten minute trip and took their public tour. You can do it through any of the tour companies, but we liked this flexibility of doing it on our own, and it was a bit cheaper. See more..

Went on a Night Walking Tour in Manzanillo NP with Abel. We were the only ones to book a tour on this day, so it was essentially a private tour. Abel did the tour even longer than planned - for almost 4 hours, but the hours passed by like minutes. On every corner was something to see. Different lizards, frogs (the red eyed tree frog of course), snakes, spiders you name it. Abel had for every animal a story to tell and was very informative and super friendly. See more..

Do not waste a moment looking at other tour operators. I cannot recommend Tortuguero Tours highly enough. Jessica and Francisco were absolutely amazing. Both have passion and knowledge for nature and customer service that went beyond our expectations. Jessica took excellent care of us and provided fantastic communication, even arranging our transport around the area and ensuring we were taken care of from the minute we arrived at the dock to head to Tortuguero. We did the full day tour with kayaks in the morning and learned a lot about the area and everything we saw. Arcardi garden hostel was a very nice hostel at the caribbean coast of tortuguero. We have even seen tucans on the trees right in the hostel. The room was clean and really comfortable. Especially the service was really good. For our further trip from tortuguero to la fortuna it was no problem to book a shuttle at the reception. The trip was operated by alejandro, one of the owners of arcadi and he told as a lot of very interessting informations of costa rica and showed us even real costa rican traditional breakfast. Our group found Syltravel Day Tours and Vanessa (our tour guide) at the port where our Cruise Ship Docked. Vanessa immediately greeted us and explained the different tours. Our group of 10 decided to go with her around the island, we saw many different things and even tasted some local food and took amazing pictures. Vanessa went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable, having fun and even explained the history of the different landmarks we saw. I would highly recommend this company for any day tour! In the Chocolate tour you first visit the cacao plantation and receive an insight of the work involved in growing, care taking cacao trees and harvesting the cacao pots. There are other tropical fruit trees and large up to 60m tall shade trees native to the area of tropical rainforest, inhabited by diverse wildlife such as the howler monkeys, agoutis, kinkajous, sloths and many birds among others. All is managed organically, respecting the natural environment. You learn about the fermentation process and visit our traditional sun drier covered with the cacao beans. We taste different fruits from other trees depending the season. In our workshop you will receive a fruit juice of the farm and appreciate all the manual work to manufacture the chocolate, the way how the cacao beans are roasted on fire, then broken with stone and grinded by hand. Based on the reviews, I connected with them and booked the Tortuguero tour with them. Unfortunately another couple who were also booked with us, opted out at the last minute, so we couldnt do the tour with Riverboat Fransesca, but even then I am writing this review because I was deeply touched at the manner in which Sven went out of his way to help us plan and get us to Tortuguero. It was not easy because while we were to come from San Jose, we werent returning back to San Jose. Sven helped me plan my trip every step, and gave me all the info. He spent a lot of time replying to my emails, talking to me on phone, even though he didnt have my business; just goes to show how committed and genuine these folks are. Absolutely amazing! Manuel made our time in Cahuita National Park absolutely enchanting. We are a family (from the UK) that like to travel independently, so hiring a guide is not our first thought, however, Manuels' keen eye and great knowledge of the wildlife in Costa Rica meant we were able to see an incredible range of creatures that otherwise we would have walked straight past. Manuel met us at the entrance to the park and advised us of the best routes then left us free to choose how long and which direction suited us as a family. You didn't come to Tortuguero to lay around the hotel pool. You came to see wildlife in a beautiful setting and the National Park here delivers. Our hotel (Manatus Ladge) ran the tours and coordinated with the National Park for our permits so we didn't have to worry about the logistics. They also supplied a guide. No matter how good you think you are in terms of spotting wildlife, you'll want to have a guide who knows where to go to maximize your time here. The natural setting is gorgeous and the wildlife is plentiful. We saw toucans, macaws, iguanas, sliders, howler monkeys, caimans, crocodiles and much more. I would recommend a twilight tour where you walk through the rain forest using flashlights. Scary but fun. Finally, I'd it is nearing season, go on a nighttime turtle nesting tour. Seeing giant turtles laying eggs in the sand on the beach at night in the rain was a premier experience. Take bug spray, a light rain jacket and a good camera with a telephoto lens. See more..
