   This is a very important place for the bhutanese folk. This monastery is built in the 17th century by Minjur tempa and has fine old paintings. Guru Rimpoche was said to have meditated there. The landscape around is also worth a tour.... See more..

   Arriving in Trashigang by road, you'll the dzong on the mountainside overlooking the deep Dangme Chu river valley. Being the only tourist visiting at the time (not during a festival), it was possible to wander the hallways of the administrative building and the monastery, and even be invited for a look inside of one of the monks' simple quarters -- which was a reminder of how I have too many toys at home. The dzong is within walking distance of the town center, and protocol suggests that visitors be dressed respectfully. No hats, footwear, or photography are allowed in the inner prayer rooms and chambers housing the relics, of course. It is acceptable to leave small donations on the altars; follow the lead of your guide and have small currency notes on hand. See more..
