A friend and I visited Bhutan in May of 2019, so this review is long overdue. I can't recommend Wind Horse tours enough - Pema was our guide, and he and our driver were both fantastic! The attention to detail and care for us for 12 days was second to none. They were very kind, professional and easygoing. Pema always had our itinerary/permits etc ready when we entered a temple, and knew so much Bhutan's history and culture. Our driver (I'm sorry, I forgot his name!) was also was excellent at managing any bumpy or unpaved roads we needed to go on. My friend and I felt very safe the whole time. We did about a private tour of 5 days of touring and cultural sites and then another 4-5 days of the Jomolhari trek and of course we visited Tiger's Nest. And can I mention that we stayed at some pretty nice hotels too? They were kind of ornate with Bhutanese art See more..

    Ogyen Choling Palace Museum image
It was a very peaceful and serene place. The care taker was very helpful and pleasant. We were told to sign on visitor log book and surprise to know that we were the only 2nd Singaporean to visit that museum. The whole place was filled with olden days history when farmers and traders used to sell and buy items on that area. You can see tools and types of 'machine' they used harvest crops. The staircase can be steep and narrow, but every level show the living quarter from the past. See more..

    Jakar Dzong image
Hello Travellers. After completing my Ura Valley tour, I headed towards main City Jakar, headquarters and Capital city of Bumthang District. The Place is so silent and serene. If you’re planning to visit beyond Central Bhutan, do visit Jakar city and Jakar Dzong. The Dzong stands on the upper ridge side, situated on Chamkhar valley of Bumthang and looks like an ancient royal palace. You can feel the essence of silence and can experience the real beauty around. As I entered, I saw young Monks were preparing for some festival and also served me with masala tea. The Dzong is too big, for some moment I lost my way and the doors of the Dzong are very big. I would recommend everyone to visit this place, if you’re planning to visit Bumthang District and beyond places. See more..

    Ngang Lhakhang image
The Gompa is small and very intimate, again not many people in Bumthang this time of the year, so for me it was perfect, the surroundings are beautiful like Bhutan in essence. What make this Gompa so special is the Guru Rinpoche Statue shaped by Terton Pema Lingpa and many dakinies. When I looked at this statue of Guru Rinpoche it was like ti was alive, really like seeing him in person. Also the iron blanket is worth a try, there are a story it will clean the sins. When carried minimum for 3 rounds clockwise in the temple yard. See more..

Owned by swiss national Mr. Maurer, this micro brewery makes excellent unfiltered, weiss beer. I heard that the owner also helped set up the cheese factory nearby and owns Swiss Guest House, an excellent stay option in Bumthang not far from the brewery. At the brewery the tour starts with a walk thru of the plant and ends with the sampling of freshly brewed beer, which I think is top standard. There is an entry fee of $5 and visits are best arranged by calling Mr. Maurer on mobile No. 17115216. (closed for visits 2nd half Saturday & all of Sunday and during brewing & bottling) See more..
