- 4.0 Kuakata (35 reviews)
-A charming surprise right on the Bay of Bangal
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
Charming Kuakata is really the end of the line, 3 hours by express bus south of Barisal, and right where Bangladesh ends on the Bay of Bengal. The town has all the color of Bangladesh without the horrendous traffic and noise. It is essentially one long Main Road leading down to the beach. Along it are hotels (stay at Kuakata Guest House; see my review), restaurants, tea shops (one with 'the world's most handsome Tea Guy'---2 guys and one woman all agree on this), barber shops that give facials, and massages. The Bay of Bengal waters are not pellucid tropical, but clean. The beach is deep and wide, with wooden loungers and umbrellas (about 50 US cents an hour). There is a market right down by the beach. People are friendly and helpful. We stayed 4 days and would have stayed more. We had to get back to Dhaka to catch a plane. You can take the 9am express bus up to Barisal, and catch the 3 pm boat back to Dhaka, getting there about 9 pm. It's an easy trip. See more..
- 4.0 Guthia Mosque (17 reviews)
-Also Known as Baitul Aman Mosque
Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites
This is probably the largest mosque from our southern Bangladesh. I didn't visit this mosque during the daytime. Thus I have no idea about how it is during the day. But I know how it looks like during the night. It is nicely decorated, and the lighting are nearly perfect. It is delicately beautiful and picturesquely colorful. There are lot of pathways around where the visitors can have their stroll. Its really a peaceful place and anyone would surely love to spend few moments here during the night. See more..

Locally it is known as Madhabpasha Dighi. Initially there were four brick built ghats each having 15 m width. Due to the lack of proper maintenance jungles gradually surrounded the dighi. See more..
