It is advisable to call or WhatsApp him (+355997832673) a day before. The tour lasts around 2.5 hours and covers all the major sights. Juxhino is a very knowledgeable, insightful and personable guide who'll provide you with more than just the history. Besides the free walking tour, he canl also arrange tours for a very reasonable price to nearby sights like Voskopoje ,which I highly recommend. All in all, any visit to Korce would not be complete without taking this free walking tour. Such a fantastic place just 10 minutes by car from Korca. However it's better to go on foot and explore the destinations that aren't reachable by car such as Guri i Capit or Bozdovec. It's a national park and although it's not such famous it's great if you love nature. See more..

Fünf Kilometer nördlich von Voskopojë liegt der kleine Ort Shipskë auf 1.350 m Höhe mit einer der schönsten Kirchen Albaniens - die Georgskirche (Kisha e Shën Gjergjit). Sie liegt inmitten eines alten Friedhofs. Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten um nach Shipskë zu gelangen - entweder mit dem Auto auf einer engen und kurvigen Schotterstraße oder besser in einer zwei- bis dreistündigen Wanderung über das ebenfalls sehenswerte Kloster Shën Prodhromit (Kloster Johannes des Täufers).

Die ersten Spuren der Georgskirche reichen bis ins 5. Jhd. zurück, der derzeitige Bau stammt aus dem 15. bis 17. Jhd. Das Gotteshaus wurde vor zehn Jahren mit Hilfe privater Sponsoren und EU-Gelder renoviert und sie ist voller herrlicher Fresken mit Bilderzyklen aus dem Leben von Jesus und auch vieler Heiliger, entstanden ebenfalls im 17. Jhd. Als Besucher wird man von der Farbenpracht und der einmaligen Schönheit der Bilder richtiggehend überwältigt.

Die Kirche wurde schon viermal ausgeraubt, zuletzt 2013. Die gestohlenen Kunstgegenstände konnte man nicht mehr finden, wahrscheinlich wurden sie ins Ausland verkauft. Nur noch eine Handvoll Familien leben in Shipskë, die meisten Bewohner sind nach Griechenland ausgewandert. Manche kommen im Sommer zurück und renovieren die alten Häuser.

Im Dorf Shipskë gibt es eine kleine Bar, die jedoch unregelmäßig geöffnet ist. See more..

Although it was built in 1995, it was actually rebuilt on the place where an orthodox church once stood before it was destroyed by the Hoxha's brutal regime. Today it is one of the main symbols of the beautiful city of Korca. The interior of the Cathedral is very interesting and inspirational, especially due to an unusual painting frescoes. On the one hand, I highly recommend visiting this historic place. On the other hand, I know that I can not too increase your expectations because the place is quite abandoned and touristicaly neglected. The Albanians would like to place this place on the UNESCO heritage list, but until they do some basic steps, it does not make sense. I arrived by car, there is no real sign on the road. But stop at the highest point passing Selce village. I also recommend returning along the same route as the straight path to the valley is quite adrenaline if you do not have an off-road vehicle. But we did it! A new road for Pogradec is under construction so to connection in the future will be surely better. The point is extremely strategic and it seems to be well selected. Some hidden excavations are perceived around the top. The area is completely unsecured. Maybe there's still Illyrian gold there. See more..

Actually it's a tiny, early mediaeval (thirteenth century, I think) domed church, and very beautiful, both outside, for the exquisite decorative Byzantine brickwork, and inside, for the frescoes. This is said to be the oldest surviving church in Albania - even older than the churches in Voskopoje. Some of the ancient icons in the Museum of Mediaeval Art are from this church. To get there, go past the brewery and keep on for a few hundred yards. You're now in the suburb / ancient village of Mborja. Then begin asking people for "Shen Ristoz" (the Holy Resurrection), or "Shën Marisë" (St Mary's - because it's dedicated to the Virgin Mary). You'll see the church standing on a hill. Best to have somebody with you who can track down whoever has the key, but if you haven't just ask around, pointing towards the church ("kisha") and making key-turning signs. See more..

This is one of the better little museums dedicated to a prehistoric culture I have ever visited. A small venue, you are not inundated with details, given instead a broad overview of this community that lived here from the 13th to the 6th c BC. There is ample descriptions in English plus a video. That brain surgery was done during this period of time is fascinating to contemplate. The skeletal remains of a mother with her pregnant child will fixate you. A short walk from the museum is the tumulus. It is a worthwhile stop either before or after visiting Korca. See more..

The church of Saint Nicolas in Voskopoje is probably the best preserved church in the once vibrant city of Voskopoje. Its interiors bear some of the most exquisite works in terms of painting frescoes and rarely seen architectural style. Once you get inside, you will understand why it hides such beauty! Unfortunately, both the interiors and exteriors are quite neglected and not well kept, which should be improved as soon as possible, since there is a great danger for the magnificent frescoes to be lost in the nearest future. A combination of Korca's amazing old city architecture and modern novelties would probably be the best description for the amazing city square. The old bazaar has recently been renovated and has regained its old glory, thus becoming of on the most attractive tourist destinations in Albania.
