Great US memorial for the US Army endeavours during the siege of Bastogne

Must see for everyone who is interesed in WW2 and the Battle of the Ardennes/Battle of the bulge Dec 1944/Jan 1945. The memorial has been overhauld, looks fresh and renewed. The gardening around is well done. For those who are able to walk, I would advise to walk the " marche de la paix " or peace walk of 8 or 16km starting from and return to the Mardasson memorial passing the small villages of Bizory and Foy, Bois de la Paix and Bois Jacques where one can still see the US fox holes that were dug during the siege of Bastogne. The walk gives you an idea how small the entanglement around the town was ( follow the blue/white/blue indicators for the walk and refreshement can be enjoyed at Bizory animalaine.

    Memorial
8.50 euro for a fantasic display and story of the Battle of Bastogne - be sure to allow that extra hour when visting the stunning and evocative American Memorial to the fallen in the WW2 battles here.

    Moving and impressive memorial
War memorials are not always easy to get right - some are too triumphant - but this memorial manages to combine grandeur and simplicity in a very moving way. Ten panels on it tell the story of the Ardennes offensive in a straightforward and sobering way, and it is the perfect complement to the war museum it shares a site with. Well worth a 30 minute addition to a visit to the museum.
