Coteaux de la Citadelle, Wallonia, Belgium

4.5 (653 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Wallonia Historic Walking Areas

Pleasent and Great Views

This hilly area of the Citadel of Liege is hard work to get to, but you'll be rewarded with excellent views of the city below. The views from the top of Montagne de Bueren are excellent, but if you go further along to Belvédère Liège, the views are even clearer and better. There isn't much to see of the citadel and it's mostly ruins. You can still walk around and see a lot of what remains as much of it is still standing. The area has paved walking paths and is a pleasant area for a stroll.

Viste des coteaux de la citadelle
My daughters are living in the vicinity of " les coteaux de la citadelle " Pesonnaly I visited it several times. From the height of " les coteaux de la citadelle" you have a marvellous view of the city of Liège. You can also visit and / or go up on the 378 steps of a famoes battle named " les 600 Franchimontois " with at the end all died.Have a nice trip.

A good way to discover the history of Liège
I would like to emphasize specially this sight as a quiet place situated in the center of Liège. It's absolutely peaceful and easy to access, but not for disabled as there are many stairs, either at the beginning or at the end. Along the way, you discover in the middle of some lawns and flowerbeds, the Old Prince-Bishop palace, the river with its meanders, the main old churches of the town and the historical area of Montagne de Buren, which was built in the XVIII century. There along the stairs you're going to discover houses with magnificent gardens and houses redone lately as this area was invaded this last three decades by people, intellectuals and artists mainly, who wanted to live near the city centre and in a peaceful environment. Of course, no car and even no bicycles there... A challenge for the ones who went to the supermarket! I hope you a pleasant stay there! And don't forget to have some food nearby at "La place du marché" where the Perron, symbol of the independence of the town, dated back from more than 1200 years!
