101 Airborne Museum Le Mess - Bastogne, Wallonia, Belgium

4.5 (581 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Wallonia Military Museums

Nice exhibits, realistic simulation

We parked at the nearby train station, and then walked. It’s a block or two away. They did a really good job with the wax figures in the dioramas. Usually they look ridiculous, but these are decent. Plus, they didn’t just use mannequins like many places do. The bomb shelter simulation seemed very realistic. To the point that I would hesitate to bring kids in it, or anyone easily rattled. It is quite loud, obviously. The building this museum in is neat to see as well, especially the stairwell.

So lifelike I started physically shaking.
Such an unassuming building on approach that hides a magnificent and extensive collection of artefacts. There are many incredibly lifelike (unnervingly lifelike) scenes from the war (you feel like you are standing there back in time). The room with the nazi commanders literally took my breathe away. I honestly don't know how they've done it, but it was so lifelike I started shaking in my hands and arms. I've never seen anything like this, I would very much like to return and see it again some day. Well done to whoever runs this amazing museum, you have done an outstanding job and we are so grateful we went.
