The street art first drew crowds to this small area and then every possible space was turned into a souvenir shop. Interesting cafeterias also appeared like the white glass cubicle Your Local Club on a heritage site next to the almost fading Girls on a bike drawing. The constant action on the narrow adjoining streets keeps people coming to pose with their chosen piece of art. See more..

Chulia Street or locally known as Lebuh Chulia has a long history starting with British colonial rule which encouraged Indians to migrate to Penang. The Muslim Indians congregate around this street hence the name. Signs of their presence are still evident with a number of nasi kandar eateries and hawkers selling street food along the street and its offshoots. In addition to that, grocery shops selling spices make a walk along this street a sensory adventure. See more..

We went to George Town as a layover day on our way to Langkawi and found it perfect for a day trip. The street art is easy to find and can be spotted everywhere around the district. Small artsy cafes and restaurants along with crafty souvenir shops create a nice easy going experience. Of you’d like to see all art pieces I’d recommend to get a map and look them up beforehand. Ipoh bean sprouts chicken is renowned to everyone and it has become a symbolic food that represents Ipoh. However, when we question about the history of its origin, how many people are clearly aware of how "bean sprouts chicken" come about? As we all knew, during 1968, the year of Malaya (Malaysia independence day was in 1957), all states were packed with British army who enjoyed the night entertainment. They danced the night away and discotheques and pubs were formed everywhere. After dancing, night owls would look for supper at street hawker stall in the surrounding areas. This is how most of the street hawker stalls were created and it has become one of the cultural scenes in Ipoh. Night owls not only helped the hawkers to keep their business going, night owls are also picky eaters. During food delivery, they instructed the hawkers to serve the chicken, bean sprouts and rice noodles(hor fun) separately to preserve the original taste of the ingredients. Thus, it forms today's "bean sprouts chicken". See more..
