    Sokolac Castle image
Brinje town is located on Route 23 approximately midway between Karlovac and Senj. The solitary remaining tower of the once substantial C13th castle is visible from a long way. Having driven round the base of the hill, we chose to park in the only car-park we could find - on route 23 as it runs through the town. The grass of the hill is maintained through sheep grazing and as their are no defined paths beware sheep droppings. There are several visible parts of the castle including a renovated tower, which is now a church/chapel. The modern aluminium steps are accessible but when we were there (June) the doors were locked. As with all the castle we visited in Croatia, the views were amazing. See more..
