Laem Tong Bay, Krabi Province, Thailand

snow beach!

In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful beaches on the islands around Phuket. A unique beach with white sand. We had lunch here, and after that we had an hour to swim and relax by the beach. If you are lucky, you may also get this experience and stop on a tour of one of the islands.

Probably the best in Phi Phi
If you like rather Long Beaches, this is the best of Phi Phi. Not far from the village (30-40 min walk), easy path and with a decent number of restaurants and hotels. Clear water and shadow make it perfect for a beach day.

Best beach on Phi Phi Don and Paradise itself
See my review of Holiday Inn for some information on exactly how beautiful Laem Tong beach is. In this review, I would like to indicate what walks are available around the Laem Tong area for those who like to walk when they are not swimming. Laem Tong is isolated. There are no roads connecting Laem Tong to the rest of the island with the one exception of a paved footpath, used as a road by motorcycles and bicycles (so keep a watch while walking on it) linking Laem Tong with the next beach south where Phi Phi Village is and also the Outrigger resort. About a 60 minute walk basically level with up and down undulations and following the coast, the walk is worth doing just to see Phi Phi Village and/or to take advantage of the far cheaper services on offer in the village (eg, Thai massages at half the resort prices). There are multiple bars and cheap travel outlets offering daytrips. Even a hair salon. All in quaint shopfronts lining the windy "road" through the centre of the village. Beyond Phi Phi village heading south is the beginning of what we were told (but did not verify ourselves) is a narrow unpaved track through the jungle to get to Tonsai, a further one hour's walk away. You cannot walk any distance in a westerly direction across the width of the Laem Tong peninsular except in two ways (there may be others but we couldn't find them). One is to follow the signposted route through the Holiday Inn resort to its sunset bar perched high atop a cliff on the west coast. The other is to walk up the beach until you reach the dive shop with the tower outside advertising another sunset bar. Take the "road" by this tower and it will lead you in a flat 10min walk to the ocean pier on the west side of the peninsular. Good sunset viewing for free from here. A walk to the north of Laem Tong beach is possible but is challenging. Go through Phi Phi Natural resort and past its pool area. You will find a track paralleling the beach heading north. This track eventually terminates but nearby is an unpaved "road" which goes up and away from the coast. It was so muddy when we were there, we did not take this route but it probably leads north as the peninsular at this point is very narrow. We instead followed the beach but the walk gets increasingly difficult because of large boulders strewn all over the beach, and only possible at low tide anyway (beware the rising tide doesn't strand you on the way back!)
