I booked a tour to see Kutai National Park for two days to see the Orangutan and was NOT disappointed! After taking a 30 minute boat ride up the river to the Prevab ranger station we ate lunch and rested briefly before going out on our first trek. Not all but a large amount of the forest is secondary subsequently due to the great Borneo forest fires years ago, but ironically it has actually greatly increased one's chances of seeing Orangutan there due to the parks reduction. Within 30 minutes the ranger round several orangutans directly above us and while they rarely come to the ground, they came within a few meters of us. We also saw a black and white snake, beautiful mushrooms, monitors, and macaques and during the night safari we saw a beautifully coloured kingfisher, as well several large spiders and a tarantula. Walking through the jungle to the sounds of the forest and in the midst of the moonlight is definitely something I would recommend to the adventure traveler! See more..

During my short visit to South Kalimantan, basing myself in Banjarbaru I observed that the urban area has mostly been constructed on living very little space for greenery and recreation. On my way to one of my site visits I came across Van Der Pijl Park, in the centre of Banjarbaru town. It was relatively small but despite that provided the locals with precious public open space to perform recreational activities. The park in located a residential area and no public transport available. The park consist of several themes, from children playground, pet area, outbound and education, water park, fruit area, and many more. We require to buy an entry ticket, and another ticket if we want to enter some theme park. But, there are some free ticket theme park like labyrinth and arcade game. However, those free facilities are poorly maintained. I think the entry ticket rather expensive, especially we need to pay extra ticket for each theme. The park has large unpaved parking place. I recommend to visit it in the early morning or in the late afternoon to avoid extra hot during the noon. See more..

This amusement park is great, especially the swing merry go round. The playing machines are also good. My children have fun during the visit. The place also have a good spot for parent as artificial grass yard is provided. We can take a short rest there while waiting for our children playing. We enjoyed our half day at Jurung Tiga Nature Park very much. It was interesting to see a local attraction, learn about different types of trees, and climb up a tall tree house ladder to see the forest canopy. (Be sure and obey the signs which limit the number of "orangs" (Indonesian word for people) on the tree house and rope bridge. The drive out there from the city of PangkalanBun (where most tourists are staying since they usually fly in to that airport) is also interesting. The actual location is on Jalan Tranlik (Tranlik Street, in English) in the village of Psair Panjang. We believe that this attraction is open 7 days a week from approximately 8 A.M. until 5 P.M.
