    - A Birthday Celebration

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of taking a friend and close family member to a wine tasting at Westcave Cellars. It was my first experience at their new location. It was a perfect day. As always all of the wine is masterfully crafted by Allan and Margaret. The tasting room had 360 degree views due to all the “clear as glass” windows. In addition to tasting unique, award winning wines and snacks, we met Whitney our server. Whitney was totally enjoyable. She described the wines perfectly and coached us on “what to look for” in each sip. She nailed the nuances of tastes each variety of wine afforded us. It was a great experience. We learned a lot. We were there for quite a while. It was a memorable time of celebration, fun and outstanding wine, food and service. Thank you “Westcave Cellars” & our new friend Whitney. We are eager to come again with our husbands. (And we are eager to try the beer as well!!!!) Murphy T. See more..

  4. 4.0 Vinovium (18 reviews)
    - Great wine
Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours Wineries & Vineyards
    Vinovium image
I'm very picky about my Texas wineries. Many of them only have sweet wines and others just havent figured out what they are doing yet. That being said, there are some good ones now. I love Hawks Shadow and Calais. Vinovium is different though. It's fun and playful while still taking its wine very seriously. They have unique blends that you won't find anywhere else. They also purchase grapes from all over the world so you can try many different varietals side by side. I bought a keg of wine here for my daughter's wedding, and it was a big hit. If you're in the area you really should try it, but go in with an open mind. See more..

Staff was very friendly and had a big selection of wine. The zinfandel was by far our favorite. They had a big group come in for a tasting and still made time to help up us. I would recommend stopping by if you are in that area. Well worth it. See more..

If you are traveling through Johnson City you must stop and visit Gary Hahne at the Hahne Estates Winery. I won't spoil it by giving you his whole story but it is worth the stop. His winery is one block off 290 on Pecan St. across form the courthouse. Tastings are free, all the wine is made onsite and the photos on the walls tell the story of the only Hill Country winery who's owners actually grew up in the Texas Hill Country. The Hahne ranch is in Stonewall where Gary grew up and grows some of the grapes he uses in his wines now. You will not regret stopping in! See more..

This is an outstanding winery. The wines are made from California grapes. We found the quality of the wines to be among the best in the area. A tasting of either 4 whites or 4 reds was $30. The majority of the wines were ones that we enjoyed enough to buy bottles. Tom as the host was very friendly and informative. Our appetizer and pizza were both very tasty and worth the visit on their own. This place is highly recommended. See more..

The road to the winery may be a bit intimidating but hang in there. Tasting is in the tree house or on the covered patio. Both have a great view of the vineyards. Reagan, the winemaker was our server. He obviously was very knowledgeable about the wines. We especially liked the Sangiovese and the Tempranillo however, all of the wines were good. Highly recommend stopping by and enjoying the wines. See more..
