4.0Hongfu Temple(36 reviews) - Up in the mountain is a temple... With Monkeys! Thursday: 6:30 AM - 6:00 PM Religious Sites
This is a functioning temple built in the 17th century, with many surprises, most of which (to us) were the monkeys running and hopping around. We took a bus up to the temple because the hike would have been very difficult with the winding roads. Once we had passed through a typical mountain forest where people were actually picnicking, we marveled at the architecture... and the monkeys. It seems that Westerners are uncommon because many people took our pictures. The entry fee was minimal (perhaps 2 yuan) and I'd suggest hiring a guide to explain the various buildings and the mural. The most impressive statue, in my opinion, was that of the Maitreya (Future) Buddha. The large ceramic (?) mural near the exit of the complex depicts a Buddhist story; people close their eyes and try to touch the Buddha. It's hard to believe that such a peaceful place exists near such a bustling city!See more..

4.0Anshun Confucian Temple(6 reviews) - Worth finding Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Religious Sites
No signs for this so it is tricky to find. Walk along the bridge away from the DoubleTree on Hongshanhu Road. When you get to the end of the bridge turn right into Hongxueba Rd (not marked). Walk about 200-300m down a paved slope and look left. You should see it. 10RMB to get in. I reckon Confucius and his mates at the back of the complex are new, but most of the temple looks original (1394). Plenty of information about Confucius, but it is all in Chinese. Really lovely place.See more..
