    Worth the trip
I was intensely curious about this place because it’s visible from the ferry from Turku to Mariehamn and back. I finally had an opportunity to go and it’s so worth a visit! The old pilot house is now a museum and gift shop, and has a small cafe run by volunteers—I highly recommend the Åland pancake. The old beacon now has a large, airy, light-filled meeting space that’s perfect for group activities. And the rocky island has a colony of snakes! (But they’re shy and you’ll have to search pretty hard to find one.) If you’re lucky enough to be there during a ferry crossing, you’ll see a massive ship sailing within feet of the island (or so it seems). It’s an amazing sight.

    The Ålander statue of liberty
Kobba Klintar is an old pilot station that ceased operations in 1972. The striking pyramid has replaced the former beacon. For the seamen, it has been a statue of liberty. It is the first thing you see when arriving in Mariehamn by boat or ferry. Now the island is run by the association Kobba Klintarnas vänner. There is a cafe on the island. Guided boat trips to Kobba Klintar are organized in the summer.
