hiking in superb nature

Sailing had been the activity on the previous day, now it was time for some hiking. For this we rented a car and drove about 30km out of Mariehamn to the northernmost area of Fasta Aland, the biggest and most populous island of the archipelago. We parked the car outside the restaurant Solduna at one of the highest points of the Aland's (99m asl). There was a small pond there with a boat in it and it was the starting point of our walk. The path takes one through forests, over flat granite rocks to a cave and a narrow gorge. At a certain point there were hundreds of small cairns. Once in a while we encountered an information board, often only in Swedish. We didn't meet anybody, when we walked there and we very much enjoyed the peace and the beauty of the nature here.

    Outdoor activity for whole family
    We were here with kids 12-15 years old and we took a long path. It was very nice BUT it was raining day before so it was wet and slippery so good shoes is a must. Great place to have a dog with :) roughly 2 hours of climbing up and down. Long sleeve and water bottle in the backpack is a good idea.

    Must when in Åland
    One of the places you absolutely have to visit while in Åland. The views are stunning, and even more if you climb up to the observation tower.
