    Honor Heights Park image
We came to see the Butterfly "Papilion" (apparently a play on words of "pavilion" and the French word for butterfly "papillon".) While the Butterfly hut was small, it was beautifully executed with pleasant gardens surrounding it. There is a small fee ($3 per adult) to enter the Papilion gardens; the rest of the park is free. The park features a splash pad, a modern playground, several ponds, plenty of shady trees and picnic tables. The April azalea festival and the Christmas lights are special times to visit. See more..

Whow what an interesting museum to visit, incredible history of Country Music for the Oklahoma State and so much knowledge that can be learnt. The curator Ronald Boren was an absolute star, told me so much about all the artists, the area and everything about the complete music scene. I am a big fan of Merle Haggard's song "Okie from Muskogie" so to visit Muskogee and this museum was a real treat. Five Civilized Tribes Museum image
The museum is located right next to the VA Medical Center and has its own small parking lot on the opposite side of the museum from the hospital. We spent about an hour touring the museum inside and outside. The ground floor has interesting exhibits about the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Muscogee Creek, and Seminole nations. The second floor has an art gallery with native art, and a room where you can view an informative historical film. We thought the museum was nicely done and worth our time to visit. Admission $4. There are restrooms at the back of the ground floor. See more..

    - Personal Tour
Sunday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
Three Rivers Museum of Muskogee, Ok, Inc. image
Visited the Three Rivers Museum in March 2013 when I was in town for a funeral. One of the docents / curators was kind enough to give a personal guided tour. The museum displays were undergoing some renovation (workers were building a cut-away display for an interior house display. Most of the other displays have new, informative descriptions typed up. This is a cool museum if you want a brief history of the Three Rivers region. Displays about the plains tribes, the white settlers, the growth of Muskogee, the bad tornadoes in the 1940s are brought to life with photos and artifacts. There is a small gift shop, and the museum is trying to make more displays interactive and hands-on. If you go, ask for Karen: she is a walking encyclopedia of local history. See more..

    Spaulding Park image
I understand Spaulding has a long rich history with those from the area. We like to go there with our grandkids and walk the dogs on the paths. It's not a real big park but does have a pool, walking paths, pond, community garden, basketball and tennis courts. There's also a large pavilion, picnic tables and a nice playground area for those family functions. Muskogee has many parks throughout town. Spaulding is in close proximity to the downtown area, convenient for quiet lunch breaks and those nice walks in the park. Enjoy the Magnolia, Hickory and huge Oak trees See more..

  21. 2.5 Muscogee Creek Nation Casino (34 reviews)
    - It ain’t Vegas, folks.
    Casinos
    Muscogee Creek Nation Casino image
No fancy dining here. A walk up concession they call a restaurant. But the cheeseburger & fries was surprisingly good. Soft drinks are free, so you've got a good value. Skip the salads. This is grilled/fried country. Lettuce is brown by time someone orders a salad. Casino is smokey, even with "smoke free" zones. Slots run from 1¢ up to a few bucks. Anything over a buck is considered high roller. Plenty of parking. You won't get rich, but c'mon, you really don't expect to hit it rich here. It's fun. And for $20 you can have an hour or two of fun. This entire area could use some street lights to help visitors find their way. See more..
