Personal Tour

Visited the Three Rivers Museum in March 2013 when I was in town for a funeral. One of the docents / curators was kind enough to give a personal guided tour. The museum displays were undergoing some renovation (workers were building a cut-away display for an interior house display. Most of the other displays have new, informative descriptions typed up. This is a cool museum if you want a brief history of the Three Rivers region. Displays about the plains tribes, the white settlers, the growth of Muskogee, the bad tornadoes in the 1940s are brought to life with photos and artifacts. There is a small gift shop, and the museum is trying to make more displays interactive and hands-on. If you go, ask for Karen: she is a walking encyclopedia of local history.

    interesting, worth a visit
Check out this museum. It give you insight into the local region's history. It's housed in the cool old train depot. And while you're there, pop into the OK Music Hall of Fame across the street. It features many plaques paying tribute to OK's musical heritage. OK is the home state of many musicians such as Charlie Christian, Barney Kessell, Garth Brooks, Wanda Jackson, Reba McIntire, Leon Russell, Roger Miller, Hoyt Axton, Mason Williams, Woody Guthrie, and so many others. There are some signed guitars and a few artifacts, in just two rooms--given OK's musical heritage, it could use some state funding and wider recognition. Right now, it's run by dedicated volunteers. If you're into music, whether it's blues, jazz, folk, country, or rock, you should check out this place to see OK's role in American music.

    Clean and well organized
This is a small museum that has several display areas set up throughout the old train depot. The lady working the entrance was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. You go at your own pace and look at the different historical displays. Everything was laid out well and easy to understand. They have a little gift shop with t-shirts and toys but you don't get the feel you HAVE to buy like in some other museums I've been to. You are allowed to go inside the cab of the train sitting out back to get a feel of how running a train is like but there are no amusement type activities. This was a great little place to learn about Muskogee and the entrance fee is more than worth it.
