   This is a 45-50 minute pontoon boat trip which departs from the boat ramp at the Desoto Falls parking lot. It is a quiet and pleasant ride up the river from the falls. Our boat pilot was Tony's father who gave us a lot of the history of the area and information about the homes that overlooked the river. The adults and the kids enjoyed the trip. There is a canopy on the boat, but you will need sunscreen as it does not give complete coverage for everyone. Insect repellent is also recommended. See more..

   These falls were so nice and pretty to look at. The rocky area is a little hard to navigate, but that can be expected. The stairway leading towards the falls has some nice colored glass affixed to each step, which adds a bit of eclectic art. There are some picnic tables about which were in use by families. There are also some hiking trails that you can get lost in for a short period of time. Overall, a pretty waterfall. See more..

   I never miss this store while in Mentone. An old volkswagon van sets outside giving a hint of the character that lies inside. Antiques, locally made things and plants are among the things inside.     I was heartbroken to hear about the fire that destroyed the White Elephant and the Mentone Springs Hotel. I have memories going back at least 35 years of visiting that wonderful antiques store, so when we went back to Mentone this year, I wasn't expecting much from the new location. First of all, it's so much smaller, but that's the only "negative" thing that I can say. They are located on the road behind the Mentone Springs Hotel. The day that we were there the previous manager of the hotel was there, and we had a great talk. I loved shopping there, and the prices and selection were really great. Once again I made a connection in Mentone and have beautiful pieces with memories attached! See more..
