  4. 5.0 Pecan Grove Memorial Cemetery (17 reviews)
    - Beautiful Cemetery - Lots of History
    Cemeteries
    Pecan Grove Memorial Cemetery image
McKinney is very proud of this cemetery and for good reason. It's very old with lots of beautiful headstones, the kind they used to make. The gates are open for visitors during the daytime and its a great place for people who love history (and cemeteries) and statuary art. The roads throughout are good and there are lots of mature trees. Every May there is a Memorial Day celebration early in the day. Year before last they had a couple of Texas senators speak. The Boy Scouts run a luncheon after the event and there is free water and limited seating. The McKinney mounted police are usually there as well as a lot of people in different types of uniforms. I would suggest bringing your own chairs just in case and the seating is generally out in the open so shade hats and possibly sun screen would not be a bad idea. This is a good, family friendly event to attend if you will be in the area over Memorial Day. See more..

  6. 5.0 Bonnie Wenk Park (5 reviews)
    - Great park for family gathering or morning walk
    Parks • Playgrounds
    Bonnie Wenk Park image
This park has so many unique trails that you could easily walk for 1-2 hrs and not cover it all. As with most of McKinney you will go through lots of creeks, greenbelts and small parks. Most of McKinney parks connect so you get to see several different Waters, playgrounds, and landscaping. There are several advanced playgrounds including zip lines and unique chair swings and most of the equipments are all kids friendly. There’s also a full, advanced outdoor gym in the center of the park and a stage that is used by locals for yoga, group exercise, and business meetings. Very bike friendly with tons of long and not crowded trails. It’s also pet friendly with a huge dog park attached to it. If they had 2-3 food trucks or food stands this would be a top 5 park in DFW. There’s a neighborhood Walmart and a street taco shop next to the park. See more..
  7. 5.0 McKinney Repertory Theatre (4 reviews)
    - Fun Entertainment
    Theaters
My family of four (two adults, two adult children) spent a Friday evening watching the amazing amateur performances of McKinney locals to the live comedy play called "Drinking Habits". The theatre was nicely equipped and well managed. If you just want a nice, relaxing way to spend an evening in McKinney, I would highly suggest taking in a performance at this theatre. Just good old fashioned fun! See more..

  9. 5.0 John & Judy Gay Public Library (2 reviews)
    - Super Personal
    Libraries
I cannot say enough things of this library and their staff. I am a senior citizen and needed help uploading things to a computer. The sweet gal that helped me could not do enough. She was patient, kind, smart, efficient and spent a lot of time helping me. I did not catch her name but it started with a R. Thank you, thank you, thank you. See more..

  11. 5.0 The Cove (2 reviews)
    - Watch for Exhibits
    Spent 1-2 hours Art Galleries
I have been to a couple of exhibits at The Cove, and I have enjoyed them thoroughly. Often, the featured artist is there to answer questions and sometimes do a short presentation. There is not an exhibit every weekend, so it is best to check out their website for dates and times. The gallery is not large, so it makes for an intimate setting for viewings and presentations. I am so delighted this is an addition to McKinney! See more..

    Historic Downtown McKinney image
Whether it is Cadillac Pizza on Friday night or Saturday morning breakfast at Spoons, you will really enjoy the small town atmosphere of Downtown McKinney. On Friday night we had drinks and pizza at Cadillac Pizza before visiting the Improve Comedy club to finish the evening. We stayed in a local B&B and then had an excellent breakfast at Spoons Dinner before shopping multiple stores including an afternoon snack at "Mom and Pops" old fashioned candy store. We then finished our trip with drinks and seafood at Bayou Jacks Cajun Grill on Saturday night. See more..

  15. 4.5 Chestnut Square Historic Village (93 reviews)
    - multiple house tour is worth a Saturday morning stop
    Sunday: Spent 1-2 hours Neighborhoods
    Chestnut Square Historic Village image
I went for the Saturday historic house tour, but appreciate the community feel of the farmer's market - I would probably make this a semi-regular stop if I lived in the area / has a small town feel. The tour itself is fine, but not really in depth. Our guide was enthusiastic but somewhat limited beyond what she'd read, declarations to the contrary. It's nice to see these places preserved and the upkeep must be expensive given what I'd imagine revenue is, so you really can't fault what I would imagine must be the volunteer staff. Good of the town to assist in saving this and adding some flavor to the community. On balance it's worth a stop, and even a drive out of your way for something to day Saturday a.m. See more..
  16. 4.5 Dog Park at Bonnie Wenk (74 reviews)
    - Great dog park
    Spent < 1 hour Parks
Dog Park at Bonnie Wenk image
The Dog Park at Bonne Wenk is located right off of Virginia parkway and Hardin road in Mckinney Texas. The park has several sections to help your dog get acclimated to its surroundings. There is a section for small dogs, large dogs and a general large area for all dogs. As you enter the park, there is a central section equipped with multiple water fountains for your dog to play. On my last visit they had also added 3 kiddie pools. My lab loved it. There are lots of water stations and poop bags in each area. If the dog park is too much for your dog, you can always walk them along the trails outside of the dog park. See more..

  18. 4.5 Tupps Brewery (48 reviews)
    - What you hope a brewery would be.
    Spent 2-3 hours Breweries
    Tupps Brewery image
Exceptionally great place in a fun area. Obviously lots to choose from in regards to beers. Great and knowledgeable staff takes care of getting you the kind of beer you want. Open-air but with a roof, some fans...it was a pretty warm day but very comfortable inside. Had a guy singing and playing guitar who was good. A little loud for us, but we're old, so take that into consideration. A little difficult to be heard across the table as we talked but not anything awful. Would come back here...WILL come back here for sure. See more..
  19. 4.5 Lone Star Wine Cellars (44 reviews)
    - Comfortable and friendly
    Sunday: 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wineries & Vineyards
    Lone Star Wine Cellars image
Well kept tasting room. Small and intimate bar. High tops strategically placed, private room for large parties and small outdoor patio with misters and speakers. Super friendly staff dedicated to making their customers feel at home. Good conversation and knowledgeable about the wine they serve. We felt like we were sitting around chatting with friends. Live local music on a regular basis adds a bit of character to the experience. The only downside for us is that they don’t grow they own grapes so their wines are really from other vineyards. As a personal touch, their wines are named after their ranch animals, with a story and photo for each animal. They are pretty proud of their wine creations and it shows in their pricing. Wines are good but have had just as good for more reasonable pricing at other local vineyards where they harvest and use their own grapes. We didn’t have any food but what was served to others looked appetizing. We enjoyed our time there for a glass of wine. See more..
  20. 4.5 Erwin Park Hike & Bike Trail (40 reviews)
    - One of my favorites!
Sunday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM Biking Trails
Erwin Park Hike & Bike Trail image
I hate for the secret to get out, but i bet it's too late for that anyway. This bike trail is one of my all-time favorites. They have really done alot of work and maintenance on this trail the last couple of years, and it is in phenomenal shape. When we were there a few weeks ago, it looked like they were putting in a newer bigger pump track too. Love Erwin Park! See more..
  21. 4.5 Towne Lake Recreation Area (39 reviews)
    - Fabulous Park
Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sports Complexes
    Towne Lake Recreation Area image
Love this park. It has a nice jogging/walking trail around the lake. It is wide enough to make a lap or two. It also has sand volleyball field, playground, and grill areas. There is a small food stall where you can buy snacks. During Summer time, they have a paddle boat swans to use for a small fee. You'll see lots of ducks and geese in the lake area. We found a goose egg one time! The park is located next to Movies 14 and Senior Recreation Center in Mckinney. It is adjacent to a small meadow/trail that you can explore. See more..
  22. 4.5 Franconia Brewing Company (31 reviews)
    - Humble tour, great brew!
    Breweries
    Franconia Brewing Company image
We did the 2 hour tour of Franconia Brewing Co in McKinney one Saturday morning. It’s a great value cause for $10 you get the tour AND coupons for 3 pints of beer. They just added the Tap room in December so you can try several different brews, some not found very often. They set up benches where you can just hang out or you can get with the brew Meister’s and ask away. Oh, and you can purchase Franconia glasses or mugs for very cheap as well! See more..

  25. 4.5 Adriatica Village (9 reviews)
    - Nice place to hangout for couple of hrs
    Hiking Trails
    Adriatica Village image
This place is not fully done yet but it’s in a perfect location if you’re in the mood to just have 1-2 hrs of relaxing walk! There are 7 places to eat so far which all are unique and great as well as handful of shops. A beautiful European style fountain, chapel, and bell tower are just a few unique sites to stop and take pictures. My favorite however is walking through the neighborhood and the board walk area and actually walk around the chapel with sidewalks for public to use on one side of the lake. See more..

    - Pick up a bit of town history
    Sunday: Speciality Museums
    Collin County History Museum image
If you are going to McKinney, this small museum with a wealth of personality is a place to stop. One (or more) of the numerous displays is bound to appeal to you or those in your group to maintain everyone’s interest. The displays give you a great sense of where you are and what McKinney grew from with a good balance of descriptive text and artifacts. We thoroughly enjoyed the “then vs now” interactive displays using the iPad provided. The staff are warm, knowledgeable, and welcoming. See more..
