At the Ipswich Museum 400 years of history surround you at every turn. Our extensive collections of fine and decorative art celebrate the historical and architectural significance of Ipswich. The Ipswich Museum is located near the town center of Ipswich, Massachusetts - approximately 30 miles northeast of Boston. Ipswich was founded in 1633 and is well known for its early 17th century architecture - 58 homes built prior to 1725 are still in existence today. Our museum is anchored by two significant properties: the 1677 Whipple House and the 1800 Heard House, as well as a 17th century reproduction house, the Alexander Knight House. Both the Whipple and Heard properties are filled with original architectural detail, furnishings, and artifacts that give visitors an intimate glimpse into the lives of early Ipswich residents. The Museum is open to the public for guided tours from May through October. Please call ahead for the most up-to-date tour schedule.See more..

We went to Sandy Beach Point State Rdservation during the recent heat wave. The greenhead horse flies were not out in masses like they can be. There was an occasional greenhead but not enough to make you want to leave. We packed up the car the night before and got an early start. We pulled into the parking lot at 6:15 am and there were still a few spots in the lot. We put up the umbrellas and enjoyed the morning sun. I brought our snorkeling equipment but the water was way too cold for me. My grandson was more courageous than me as he got some use of the snorkeling equipment. I finally took a few dives but didn't last long. Besides swimming, fishing was also an option. We brought food and drinks in the cooler and had lunch. By 12:30.pm we were cooked and called it a day. Looking forward to going back at least one more time this summer. See more..
