The Issan Rum Distillery is a compact, casual and comfortable place, one can check out, on the outskirts of town, while in and or nearby Nong Khai. I chose to do a brief technical tour of the alcohol manufacturing and storage facilities, before sampling the local product. As a former bar manager (as well as a continuing student of alcoholic beverages ...) myself, I found the short but sweet back story information, provided by the friendly hosts, to be informative and entertaining. I am also glad that I chose to do a 'taste tester' set, 'lakeside' by the small bar overlooking the dam, too. And if you are wondering, how was the sugar cane spirit (?), well I am happy to advise that I did purchase a bottle for takeaway, so yes, I do feel it is a high quality (and quite strong) white rum. A great little spot (see my YouTube), that I reckon can be positively categorised as another one of the Isaan region's many hidden gems. See more..

Yes the skywalk is wonderful of course with a great view of the Mekong and showing an island it makes when part of the river takes another way. It's not a big skywalk and it doesn't protrude far from the supporting cliff but the view is superb. What I really liked about this place was the two temples you walk up to. especially the almost completed wooden interior temple with wooden arches inside, wood paneling and wooden carved doors and windows. Very impressive. Only 20 baht for the plastic skywalk slippers, same price for foreigners. Good but windy 2 lane road to the top See more..

The Mekong River separates Northern Thailand from Laos and the locals believe that a mythical creature of higher being called the Naga lives in this river. She protects the river and all the rural lives along the shore. Every year, there is a phenomenon at the end of the Buddhist Lent. Fireballs burst out from the river in size of small sparkles up to big balls of fire into the sky. It is also known as the Mekong lights and locals believe it is the Naga’s blessing. Whether you believe it or not, it’s an amazing sight to watch at night along the river. See more..
