I was looking to visit the Saint Louis photography museum on my last day in the city and stumbled across an amazing new project: Musee de la Photographie de St. Louis. (Reception is on Rue Quai Henri Jay.) The concept of Mr. Diao and his enthusiastic team involves showcasing local art works--music, sculpture, paintings, photography--and historical presentations within six newly restored and renovated classic Saint Louis homes. The result is a beautiful, informative mix of colour and culture. The cost was CFA 1000, and in one of the six locations only. (Soon, the restored rooms will be available to rent.) My wife and myself lived in Senegal (Dakar) in the early/mid 80s and are now paying our first visit back since then to see some of our old haunts. One of these is Saint-Louis where we like the old Colonial style on the Island (staying at Hotel La Residence - Review to follow) and the only way to get there is by travelling across the Faidherbe Bridge which looked as lovely as ever!!
