  1. 5.0 Mastis Lake (18 reviews)
    - New look on the lake Mastis!
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
    Mastis Lake image
Mastis is rather big lake in the city of Telsiai (it's the capital of Zemaitija region). For long years this lake was just an ordinary lake, but the coasts now are fully renovated and you should take a look. Around the lake now new passengers and biking paths are built, there are several children playgrounds, several shelters from the rain, lots of benches ang green areas for having lunch or whatever you want to do. Lots of fishermans here and you can also rent a boat and take a look to Telsiai from the water. There is also a beach where you can sunbath and take a swim in the lake, also wc and several cafeterias are near. There are several small bridges around the lake and they all have a nice little bear sculpture (the bear is a symbol of Telsiai) - we really liked that, visited all the bridges just searching for those bears :) See more..

The cathedral was built in late baroque and classical styles in 1765. There are 7 altars in the church, 2 of them is central. In the cryptus of the cathedral there have been buried 3 bishops of Telsiai: Justinas Staugaitis, Vincentas Borisevicius, and Pranciskus Ramanauskas. See more..

I did my dry suit course with Vili. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient and very skilled - it was a real pleasure to take my course with him, he is certainly one of the best diving instructors I’ve ever interacted with. We worked on the technicals together and had a fun dive to conclude the experience. Throughout the dive he displayed excellent diving skills and an incredible attitude as a teacher. This diving center is outstanding. They have a great choice of equipment and were able to provide me with a dry suit that fit me very well. Zero leaks! The environment is very friendly and warm, and they all speak english. Definitely looking forward to diving with them again! See more..

Unique and exciting entertainment in Lithuania. The place itself is very beautiful and with these boats you can explore the lake, it's islands and what's underneath at day or night. We have tried the night boat ride with lights and accompanied with a local guide, which was very knowledgeable and told us from legends to historic facts. We can definitely recommend it, because it is very different and really unique - the boats are equipped with lights and you can explore the lake and see what's underneath the boat while sailing in the dark. It’s an amazing feeling. See more..

    Cold War Museum image
We were glad that we selected an excursion to this site when visiting Klaipeda on a Cruise. It is an excellent mainly underground bunker museum, and really brings the current comparatively close conflict into focus. We had the benefit of an English/Russian speaking guide for our tour, who was able to interpret the propoganda still evident on the walls. This site was originally a missile base built secretly and the whole area of passages, rooms and missile storage silos provided a chilling reminder of war. Definitely worth a visit to what is in effect another world! See more..
  9. 4.5 Zemaitija Park Forest (23 reviews)

Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Islands • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
    Zemaitija Park Forest image
We visited this area and particularly Lake Plateliai during a coach tour from Klaipeda, whilst on a cruise. The whole location is beautifully rural and brilliant for nature and outdoor pursuits. The very large lake is probably the centre piece and provides opportunities for leisure, relaxation and again nature. Well worth a visit to experience the great outdoors. When we were there it was very peaceful and uncrowded. See more..

  12. 4.5 Plunges Rajono Savivaldybes Viesoji Biblioteka (3 reviews)
    - A Literary Oasis
    Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Libraries
Plunges Rajono Savivaldybes Viesoji Biblioteka image
If you happen to stumble upon the town of Plungė, in the Žemaitija Region, do not miss the local library, housed within an 18th century former clock tower with adjacent greenhouse. The greenhouse is long gone (even though the entrance of the library still resembles it) but the clock still works nowadays! It only has one arm though, so you can only correctly check the hours, not the minutes… Go inside and check it out! The librarians are very friendly and they would be happy to give you a tour inside the building. More than a place to study or to grab a book, this is a place to be. P.S.: The children's library, housed on the other side of the Babrungas river, is also worth a visit! See more..

  14. 4.5 Samogitian Village Museum (2 reviews)
    - Small open-air museum
Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
    Samogitian Village Museum image
This branch of Samogitian museum Alka is situated somewhat away from the town and not reachable on foot. If one has been to Rumšiškės open air museum, it is probably not worth a detour, but if passing by and the day is nice and one has kids to show olden life of a village (with real livestock included), then the museum is very much advisable. Another attraction for kids is possibility of riding in a horse-driven cart. And not just some horse, but a very special breed Zemaitukas, known only in Samogitia. I had a very pleasant walk on a summer day and enjoyed the visit very much. The museum includes three farmsteads: rich, middle and poor, a windmill, a smithy and reconstruction of traditional Samogitian cemetery. The staff is very friendly but I do not know whether they speak much English. However, for groups there is English-spoken guide (25 EUR per group). There is a minimum labeling information in English but it is indeed scarce. And note: the museum is open from May 2nd to October 28t. The other drawback is that toilets are not really modern though reasonably clean. See more..

    - Get to know Šatrijos Ragana
Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
The memorial museum of writer Šatrijos Ragana image
Famous Lithuanian writer Šatrijos Ragana spent last 15 years of her life in Židikai. During that period she wrote her best works as well as helped Židikai to flourish. Therefore, the village honours the writer very much. Museum provides an exhibition regarding her life, her career etc. Since the writer is burried in a chapel in village's cemetery, the workers of the museum can let you in the chapel to visit Šatrijos Ragana's grave. It was established in 1932 in order to keep and exhibit the various items of Samogitia region. Besides, from the balcony you get a really beautiful panoramic view of Telšiai city. See more..

    Samogitian Diocese Museum image
Though it is difficult to believe now, looking at the small sleepy town, but Varniai was once one of the cultural and religious centres of Lithuania. The museum reflects this glorious past. Its expositions deal mainly with history of Varniai episcopate, history of Catholicism in Samogitia and generally in Lithuania and some non-religious historical issues. Ticket fees are very small; excursions in other than Lithuanian languages are available, too. However, all is very local, so it is worth visiting only if specifically interested in the subjects covered by the expositions. Most of the interest I found in the building of the museum and environs. The building is typically baroque, though through a long and turbulent history of use (as military barracks and even jail among everything) it had lost most of baroque features which were restored to their former looks only during the last two decades. This is why this incongruous look of the modern grey brick masonry of the tower. The museum is surrounded by a nice park, where some sculptures were set – some of the old times, in an awful style of Soviet realism, some are modern, depicting most important historical religious figures of the episcopate. There is also a beautifully restored building of an old inn in the viscinity and a cemetery of WWII Russian soldiers (for some reason they always buried their casualties in the central areas of towns and villages instead of cemeteries). By the order of the Czar of Russia it was decided to close the church. When trying to convince the governor of Kaunas to not demolish the church a conflict broke out, a regiment of 300 Cossacks was called to quell the conflict. They beat and trampled with their horses the people praying in the church. 54 were injured, 9 people were killed and the church itself was destroyed. See more..

The origins of the Alsedziai church complex of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary are believed to date to the 14th century, when the first church was built. The present-day Church was completed in 1793. It is a basilica style church and its wooden structure is a characteristically Samogitian pyramid shape. See more..
