We visit Narrow-Gauge Railway museum on weekend, that's the best time because Saturday and Sunday you can take a ride with old train towards Rubikiai lake and after spending there couple hours to come back. In the museum area we visit wooden rail station, water tower, storehouse exposition with old locomotive. Highly recommended during the visit in Anyksciai! See more..

We have swimming with friendly, responsible, cheerful ''Palūšės valtinės'' boat rent team. They just became our friends. We have sailed in Aukštaitija Nacional park by canoes and kayaks. Last week they offer us to swim to the night trip. We have sailed with the lights on the big wooden boat (handmade by host Kostas).It was new experience for us and our children! Lamps illuminated the bottom of the lakes and streams and we watched the fishes and water plants. We started to swim at 9 o'clock p.m. and at the 11 o'clock there was already enough darkness to watch the bottom of the lake. See more..

Two adults, two eight years old and a toddler, completed the whole round walk withing two and a half hours. The walk is easy, though there are some ups and downs using the wooden stairs. One of the hills we managed to de-tour on our way back to the parking lot. The place is quiet. There are places where it is possible to board a boat, at least as we managed to understand from the signs on the trail. See more..

This 5m high oak sculpture of two connected parts with metal suns on top depicts a legend of Ignalina. Legend says, that long time ago, where now we find Ilgio lake, there was a castle of Duke Budrys. And he had nine sons and a beautiful daughter Lina. When attacked by crusaders, Budrys and his sons went out to war and did not return. Lina became a lord of the castle. One day Lina fell in love with a crusaders prisoner Ignas. People condemned Lina for this love and the wedding day they were cursed. But the Thunder spared lovers - allowed them to reside at the bottom of the lake. Over the ages people started hearing Lina's lament arriving from the lake. They realized that Lina's and Ignas love is still alive. And when among the beautiful lakes and hills a small town appeared, people called it Ignalina so that the ages would mention extraordinary Lina's and Ignas love. A wellspring exudes at Ilgio lake now. Its water is clear as a tear, that's why people call it Lina's tears. See more..

When you enter through the front door, to the left there is a large room, which houses an art exhibit by a local artist. Not sure if the paintings are for sale. To the right is the museum, which has several rooms full of old photos and artifacts. Lighting is good, and some of the displays are very interesting. There is also a room filled with the paintings of someone who was born here, emigrated to the US, lived in Chicago and painted. Upon his death, the paintings were donated to this museum. I found my visit here to be worthwhile. See more..

We came here to check out the historical tour "Moletai differently" in VR. It shows how the city changed and developed throughout the years, starting from about three thousands years ago. It's a great way to learn more about the city's past! The staff were really friendly and glad to help. There are many other VR games that visitors can try out. Lithuania has many beautiful and gothic churches ...almost every corner. On my way to utena to visit the Stelmuze Oak, I had to stop and admire this church. Beautiful white church( most of the churches I saw were red). This church is located in Zarasai , hours drive from Vilnius. Its worst a look or visit inside if you are in the area. See more..

I recommend this place for a person of any age. It is easy to access and doesn't require lots of climbing. When we were visiting (late September), tickets were free but donations were welcome. It might have changed. The views are amazing. And I really liked how they translated Lithuanian poetry into the English language. See more..

I drove 3 hours from Vilnius to Utena, Stelmuze, just to see the Stelmuze Oak tree. It is the oldest Oak in Lithuania and one of the oldest in Europe. I was over thrilled just to see it. The drive there was refreshing and lots of country raods and lovely sceneries, churches and history. When I got there the place was on lock, no offices opened. No one around, it was also snowing heavily. No washroom facilities were opened also. The tree looked dead without leave but it was winter so it was expected not to have leaves. It was propped up like an old person. I am really happy I got to see this tree in person. I will recommend a visit here. Forget how the tree looks but know you are looking at history with thus tree being centuries old. See more..

Very nicely laid out design for kids, adults and seniors to stay chilled and relaxed. I can compare it some good places in London and France and easily I can say this is clearly green, cleaner, and less crowded. Utena city has around 30,000 inhabitants, so you find lots of breathing space all around. Fountain is a fantastic cooling place for the kids to enjoy, sometimes parents do enjoy there, too :) See more..

The castle of Voruta was one of the most important castles during the reign of the first and the only crowned King of Lithuania Mindaugas (1238–1263). Here Mindaugas defended himself in 1251, in time of the internal war. Later Voruta disappeared and its location became a matter of dispute among historians. The hillfort of Šeimyniškėliai mound is the most reliable site of the castle of Voruta. Nowadays it is the most widely explored mound in all the East Baltic. The entrance fee is 2€ and you can try out different historic activities: bow shooting, sword and shield fighting, and catapult shooting.
