  1. 5.0 Cavan Adventure Centre (122 reviews)
    - Highly recommend
    Monday: 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM Kayaking & Canoeing
    Cavan Adventure Centre image
We held my sons 12 birthday party this week in Cavan Adventure Center. The place is set in the most stunning countryside. The staff were fantastic. From booking to paying we were treated so well. They were diligent and great with the group of over excited boys. After getting on wetsuits and life jackets they were brought over to the lake. We could sit and watch as they took the boat out to a pontoon. They had a short swim to the water park so the staff could observe their swimming ability and then the fun really began. After an hour they came back and changed. We had our party picnic under a wooden pergola. To say they loved it would be an understatement. We will definitely return to do more activities. I would highly recommend it. See more..

  4. 5.0 Elena Brennan Jewellery (58 reviews)
    - Brilliant!
Monday: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality & Gift Shops
    Elena Brennan Jewellery image
Elena is an award-winning Jewellery Designer, Goldsmith and Master Pattern maker, creating beautiful, modern pieces, in her own distinctly Celtic style. Elena has worked with the National Museum of Ireland and her work has been stocked in the British Museum. Collections Include; Children Of Lir, My Angel, Mise Eire and Oops A Daisy. The Jewellery Studio is located 3 miles from Cavan Town. It is a workshop first and foremost, not a retail shop in the normal sense. I have a few showcases, where customers can browse and buy my jewellery and also discuss their special requests with me. Sometimes I am in the middle of doing lots of noisy work, or I'm trying to get pieces made to deadlines, so it doesn't always suit to see visitors., as I said, it is a working workshop. Please ring, text or email before coming out to the studio, (it also gives me time to tidy up a bit!!) If you just call on spec, that's usually ok too, but... I might not be there... See more..

  7. 5.0 Cavan Cathedral (14 reviews)
    - A hidden gem of Harry Clarke Studio windows
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Cavan Cathedral image
This is a relatively recently built Cathedral, having been completed in 1942. The workmanship throughout is magnificent. Things to look for: The colonnade to the nave which terminates not with the altar, but with a strong crossing which forms a form of rood screen. Leaded glass windows by Harry Clarke Studios. All of the nave windows are by the studios. They are very detailed as can be seen in the attached photographs. However, the composition does not have a sufficiently strong main theme. Well worth seeing all the same. There are also good leaded windows by George Collie. The spire over the front portico is modelled on the spire of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London of 1722-26 by James Gibbs. See more..

  11. 5.0 The Ramor Theatre (8 reviews)
    - A visit is close to a religious experience
Spent More than 3 hours Theaters
    The Ramor Theatre image
I'm making a little joke with my title because this theatre is located in an old church. Now, the only fire & brimstone you'll experience is from the performers on stage. It's a reasonably small venue (150 seats approx) but that makes it confortable... probably for the performers as well. They have local as well as national acts performing. It's a great addition to the town/county and I believe it is supported by the Arts Council. If they have something on to your liking while you're in the area then it's worth visiting. See more..
  12. 5.0 Drumlane Abbey (8 reviews)
    - A ruined monastery with broken round tower picturesquely located near a lake in Cavan.
    Historic Sites
    Drumlane Abbey image
The monastery is said to have been founded by St Columba in the 6th Century. The present church building dates to perhaps the 12th Century. The Round Tower was built with a wider circumference than many other monastic round towers, and the lower levels are built with carefully dressed stone. The monastery was used an Anglican church until 1821 at which point the monastery was abandoned. There are many graves surrounding the site, and one contemporary grave incongruously placed within the monastery itself. Some of these graves are of historical interest, but the graveyard is still very much used by the local community. See more..

    Lough Sillan image
Large lake just on the outskirts of Shercock village. Great photographic opportunities - I've spotted a pair of Otters once, in the water beside the little jetty at the playground. There is another small car park the other side of the lake where I once spotted a Kingfisher! Gorgeous lake when still. See more..
  20. 5.0 The Well Bar (1 review)
    - Relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff.
    Bars & Clubs
The Well is a very relaxed bar in the heart of Cavan Town with a very good atmosphere. It's a quiet bar with a somewhat sporty vibe. Horse racing is usually on the TV behind the bar, and there is a bookmakers next door if you're feeling lucky. There are also sofas and lounge chairs behind a division wall if you fancy having a more peaceful experience. The staff is absolutely wonderful. Friendly, but not "in-your-face" friendly. They always welcome you with a smile, and they always seem to know if you're in the mood for a chat, or if you want to be left alone. See more..
  21. 5.0 The Wesleyan Chapel Arts, Cultural & Tourism Centre (1 review)
    - 90th BIRTHDAY PARTY

We had my mothers 90th birthday party in the Bailie, last weekend, tks a mill to the management and staff, for all their help they were so accommodating, in every way, Even allowed us have mass in the room, which was so special, for my mum. especially Fiona Alice & Holly, so helpful and kind, and they had a lot of elderly people to look after. The night went off very smoothly, would highly recommend for a party, and they offer a very good rate for people staying over at a function. so over all, good food, great staff, and good location. 23. 5.0 The Workhouse Bawnboy Ballyconnel (1 review)
    - terrible place

    The Workhouse Bawnboy Ballyconnel image
visited this site on our road trip in ireland, this place is a prime example of how not to treat the less fortunate of us in this world, if your in the area please visit this site, you will find that it will be good for your soul, it is a prime example how the establishment can get it 100 percent wrong, and probably why the irish rose up in rebellion, its a poor forgotten place that needs bringing up to a good state of repair, to remind people what is right and wrong in this world, and help us to get our priortys right and not the goverments, having got that of my chest this is still an intresting place to visit . 24. 4.5 Cavan County Museum (255 reviews)
    - Exceeded expectations
    Monday: Speciality Museums
    Cavan County Museum image
Was not sure what to expect but expectation were exceeded. Housed in a former monastery I believe, the museum is spread out over 3 floors. The exhibits cover a variety of topics and details how Cavan individuals were involved / affected etc. Outside the main building is a mock GPO building that details the 1916 Rising. There is also a WW1 trench. However, due to really bad weather this was shut the day I visited. There also looked to be a small playpark for kids. Admission is only €6 for adult and is worth a couple of hours if in area. See more..
  25. 4.5 Farnham Estate Health Spa (247 reviews)
    - Faultless stay!!
    Spas
    Farnham Estate Health Spa image
Just returned from a one night stay. Fantastic experience from check-in to check-out. Rooms where beautiful, clean and spacious. Spa facilities were first class and extremely well maintained given the the amount of footfall this hotel experiences. Dinner in Maxwells was delicious and even tho the restaurant seemed to be doing a very large amount of covers that evening, our wait between courses was minimal. A special mention to Emma our F&B assistant that looked after us that evening, who was fantastic!!! See more..
  26. 4.5 Dun A Ri Forest Park (157 reviews)
    - Absolutely Beautiful
    Parks • Forests
Dun A Ri Forest Park image
I had a wonderful afternoon walking the various trails throughout Dun na Ri forest Park. It's a stunning place, as beautiful as it is peaceful and there are a huge variety of tracks by the river, around a lake and through the forest. The walking is not particularly difficult but there are plenty of steps and hills to keep you honest! The river walk is probably the nicest of the 4 marked trails but the village trail is really nice too. Look out for the ruins of the Barracks, Cabra Cottage, the Ice House and Flemings Castle. The lake is lovely too with a fair few ducks swimming about. Huge variety of trees and the place was alive with birdsong - even in January! There's a big car park with a €5 fee to enter but be warned, it's an automatic barrier that no longer takes coins so you'll have to tap your card. There are toilets and picnic benches as well as a food truck serving crepes and hot drinks. A wonderful place, one I'd heartily recommend and will aim to return to as soon as I can. See more..

  29. 4.5 Deerpark Forest Walk (42 reviews)
    - Beautiful Mixed Woodland Walk by the Lake
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Deerpark Forest Walk image
What a besutiful forest park, absolutely perfect for an easy stroll. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would heartily recommend it. The park runs alongside Lake Ramor which makes for very picturesque views. It's a mixed woodland so on my Jsnuary visit the floor was covered in beautiful russet leaves while the pines still stood green and tall. There's a river running through it too with lovely paths along the banks and a couple of mice bridges, one stone arched one in particular is very nice. There's free parking at the rugby club and the routes are well signed. Generally it's a gravel path, very easy if you have any level of fitness. A couple of parts are a bit steep but nothing overly taxing. A lovely place, it really is. See more..
