    Calais Wine Superstore image
Having visited this outlet on a number of occasions had to commend the staff on getting stock back on the shelves after almost being cleared of stock the day before. Such a great business and staff really helpful, at the moment wine tasting is off-limits due to COVID, but at these prices and quality you will be very unlucky to get a duff bottle of anything. No need to pay more in local supermarkets, this is the perfect one-stop wine shop! See more..

Canada's most impressive tribute overseas to those Canadians who fought and gave their lives in the First World War is the majestic and inspiring Canadian National Vimy Memorial which overlooks the Douai Plain from the highest point of Vimy Ridge, about ten kilometers north of Arras. The Memorial does more than mark the site of the engagement that Canadians were to remember with more pride than any other operation of the First World War. See more..

We had a fantastic 90-minute tour of Lille with our guide. She was friendly and helpful and we learned a ton about Lille's history. It was also a great way to get a feel for the city on our first night. The best tour we took on this vacation by far. See more..
  8. 5.0 Thiepval Memorial (700 reviews)
    - This memorial certainly make you stop and think.
    Monuments & Statues
    Thiepval Memorial image
Reopened on Thursday 14th July after cleaning and repairs, this memorial brings home the savage reality of war. The white Portland marble surfaces bear the names of over 72,000 men, killed in action on the Somme, but having no place of rest; no final resting place save for the earth where they fell. Entry via the visitor centre was €6 each and included the museum. On the short walk to the memorial, there's a house/cafe where we purchesd ice creams; most welcome in the heatwave. A trip to the Somme must include this stunning emotive memorial. See more..

We had read about this as something nice to do in Amiens. We followed the tourist signs in the city centre and walked down to the place near the river where you can get on the boats. We were there approx 9am didn’t have to wait long cost 25 euro for family of 4. Guide spoke a little English and tried to explain some things and was very helpful to us. Commentary was only in French obviously but I think if you had a recorded version it wouldn’t work so we were happy just to look and enjoy. Approx 45 mini tour of these little canals with market gardens and summer houses absolutely beautiful can’t think of anywhere else that I’ve seen or heard has anything similar. Well worth a visit and the children enjoyed it as well. See more..

We had morning coffee / lunch and an afternoon drink, so we sat there from 10am to 4pm without being disturbed once. The pizzas are excellent and fast service. See more..

    Chateau de Pierrefonds image
Dating back to the 15th century, the Chateau de Pierrefonds was comprehensively restored and altered by architect Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century to transform it into an imperial residence for Napoleon III. The chateaux often seems to have been specially built for a swashbuckling film with its richly varied painted and sculpted decors, its defensive system and drawbridge, walkways and drop-boxes, not to forget the two reconstructions of medieval siege engines. Open: > 2nd May to 4th September: from 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. > 5th September to 30th April: from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Last admission 45 minutes before closing time. What a great surprise. I liked that there are three loops so you can choose the distance, especially if going with young children. My 4 years old really enjoyed bird watching. And the walk itself is very pretty. Staff are placed all along the walk to answer questions and help you spot birds. And the restaurant at the end is very yummy. Will return in spring. See more..

  22. 4.5 Grand Place (1.259 reviews)
    - Pretty with lights during the night
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Grand Place image
The middle of the square is now a huge parking lot. There is an underground parking lot on the same location. It is a paid parking lot. The square is surrounded by old historical buildings that now accommodate all sort of burrows, from stores to private apartments. This is pretty much the entrance of the city, from there you can walk! Arras, in my opinion, it is not the most beautiful city. However, it is indeed a very interesting city. First, it was located in the middle of WWI conflict. Second, as it is located relatively close to the Belgium border is influenced by the Dutch architecture and food. See more..
  23. 4.5 Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Laon (1.080 reviews)
    - Magical
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
    Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Laon image
At the heart of the old walled medieval city is the Cathedrale. "Magical" is really the only way I can describe the experience. Cobbled streets, the protective wall around the old city, nooks and crannies and alleys to see and to walk down. You must stop in the Cathedrale. Whether you are religious or not, it is beautiful and serene. You can look at something several different times and see what you missed the previous times you looked at it. There are displays on the history of the Cathedrale's construction and a rotating art installation as well. See more..

Vast stretch of sand, very clean white soft sand a pleasure to walk bare foot. The guards keep announcing on the rules like food and dogs not allowed, otherwise unlike most of the beaches it will be filled with dog sh*t and other wastes. The water level keeps rising and many of the tourists lost their things as they were not aware of it, and they left to swim keeping their stuffs on the shore. See more..
