   While ambling around the lovely old town centre of Novigrad, we stumbled across the Muzej Lapidarium, where we found a group of people chatting and enjoying coffee and cakes outside in the sunshine. I spoke to a young lady at the door, who apologized for the state of the little museum, which on that day was being used for a conference - inside we could see chairs and tables with notebooks and laptop computers on them. She gave us some literature about the place, brought us in and showed us the exhibition of ancient Roman stonework found in the locality, as well as some photographs and paintings, all of which were quite interesting. On leaving, a young man walked in with a tray full of leftover cakes. When I remarked, 'Mmm - they look tasty!' he said, 'Would you like to try some?'     An exceptionally beautiful church. In Istria, in a rich and interesting history, they built a magnificent building such as the Roman Amphitheater in Pula, Euphrasius Basilica in Poreč, St. Fumus Church in Rovinj, Fortress Towns in Grožnjan, Motovun, Labin ... so was built this beautiful church of St. Pelage and St. Benedict in Novigrad. The interior of the church is dominated by the baroque altar and the elevated deep space below which is the (early) Romanesque crypt, the only one in Istria and one of the few in Croatia. Many of the early medieval liturgy furnishings have been found in the crypt, which are now exhibited in Lapidarium Novigrad Museum. In the Middle Ages the interior was painted with nice frescoes, as evidenced by their remains on the side (south) altar. The old bell tower on the facade of the cathedral was demolished in 1874, when it built a new standing campanile ( Bell tower ). For lovers of history, artifacts and architecture.     An urban beach, very close to Novigrad centre, with a lovely pine tree lined path that winds past the amenities (changing rooms, showers & toilets) and bars dotted along the beach front. Unfortunately the water was not particularly clear when we visited so no good for snorkeling sadly for us. We rented SUP board and gazebos are available also along this stretch if you wish to use one, although they are costed on day, not hourly charge. The beach had a lovely family vibe about it and, whilst not the prettiest beach we've been to, it felt safe and water was calm. See more..
