-Fascinating castle
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Castles
Among the most famous of the castles in the Aosta Valley, Fenis strikes visitors with its triumph of towers and crenellated walls. The castle sits on flat ground, which is unusual; Aimone de Challant improved it by building an impressive defensive system, which also features double curtain walls. However, more than being a fortress, the Fenis castle was a prestigious and refined residence: the courtyard and the rooms inside are rich in frescoes - the result of a decorating campaign started by Aimone’s son, Bonifacio in all likelihood. Not to miss is the famous St. George slaying the dragon by Jacquerio and his school, on the stone semicircular courtyard staircase. Many of the furnishings present, which are not original to the castle, were purchased by Alfredo d’Andrade, then Superintendent of Fine Arts, who supervised the restoration work at the end of the nineteenth century thus restoring the castle to its former glory. -really impressive!
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Castles
With its pointed turrets standing out from the surrounding woods, the castle of Queen Margarita of Savoy looks straight out of a fairy tale. Though it was built on models of the late Middle Ages, it dates from the early Twentieth century. It was then equipped with the latest technical equipment of that time, and it is surrounded by a large park with all the dependencies and a rocky Alpine garden with many botanical species. The interior still shows part of the original furnishings: paintings, stained glass, wood panelling, coffered ceilings and furniture made according to the taste of the Queen, she is evoked in all its parts by the flower bearing her name. The tour includes the ground and the first floor, connected by a spectacular wooden staircase with griffins and eagles. See more..

-Worth a visit!
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Castles
The famous pomegranate fountain in the courtyard and the frescoes of the portico are of an extraordinary expressive power. Here are two reasons for this apparently humble building to be one of the most significant and fascinating castles of the Aosta Valley. Rebuilt at the end of the fourteenth century, after the Challant family bought it, its magnificent halls and rooms were conceived by George of Challant in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century, at the turn between the last splendours of the Middle Ages and the innovations of the Renaissance. Thanks to the restoration of late nineteenth century all the richness of the original paintings and furniture has come to us in perfect conditions. See more..

-The cube over the hill
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Castles
Majestic, essential, powerful: these are the three adjectives that best describe this castle. A stone cube built in the late fourteenth century by Yblet of Challant on the rock overlooking the town of Verrès, in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape. The military character of this building perfectly melts with elegant carved stone details decorating its windows, doors and shelves of monumental chimneys. A stunning staircase with flying buttresses reaches the upper floors. Every year the halls of the castle hosts the traditional carnival characters of Verrès, in a blend of history and legend. -A Gem waiting to be discovered!
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Castles
The time span of almost a millennium represents the background of this castle. It was built in its present form at the beginning of the eighteenth century and in 1869 it became the property of the king Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, who chose him as one of his favourite hunting lodges. The visit includes the royal apartments on the main floor with the living room and the trophy gallery, an extraordinary tribute to the king's passion for hunting, here transformed into decorative art. Some teaching rooms were arranged on the ground floor to explore the history of the royal hunts in the Alps and the history of the castle, while the second floor rooms retrace the history of the Savoy dynasty in the twentieth century through the furniture and the portraits. Temporarily closed - Closed until Mar 31, 2023 Spent < 1 hour Castles
The origins of this fortified complex are still unknown. It is made up of buildings all dating from different periods and all belonging to the noble family of Sarriod from the thirteenth to the early nineteenth century. Some valuable wall paintings from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the period when the family reached the top of its political prestige, can be admired all along the visit. The "Heads Room", with its ceiling supported by 171 corbels carved into grotesque shapes, monsters and fantastic animals, is one of the original carving wooden late Gothic profane masterpieces. - 4.0 Castello di Introd (100 reviews)
-A privately owned castle worth visiting
Spent 1-2 hours Castles
The original castle probably dates back to the 12th century and it was initially made up of a squared tower surrounded by a stone wall. Towards 1260 Pierre Sarriod from Introd enlarged the castle and in the 15th century it underwent more changes, acquiring the almost round polygonal shape that sets it apart from the other castles in Aosta Valley. These changes mark the apogee of the Sarriod lineage, in whose power were the dominions of Introd and of La Tour (Saint-Pierre). The Castle underwent two destructive fires during the second half of the 19th century and was restored at the beginning of the 20th century by Chevalier Gonella, availing of the work of architect Chevalley. On the plain in front of the castle there is a magnificent building; one of the rare examples left of constructions made entirely out of wood, which is the typical medieval architecture in Aosta Valley: a 15th century barn where wheat and seeds were stored. The wrought iron locks on the two doors date back to the time of the original construction. One of them, of particular beauty, represents a castle. Introd Castle now belongs to Count and Countess Caracciolo of Brienza, is on loan for use of Introd municipality and is managed by Fondation Grand Paradis, who gurantees guided tours. The panorama from the top of the 13th-century tower is magnificient, with the view of Mont Blanc and the other peaks surrounding Aosta. See more..

-Castle concert by Davide Dugros
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Castles
From the outside it may look like a grim feudal castle. It is actually a comfortable modern house instead, built between 1901 and 1903 by Baron Charles-Maurice Gamba for the sake of the young bride, the Countess Angélique Passerin d'Entrèves. As it recently turned into the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum, this castle hosts in its halls more than 150 works of the twentieth century masters, the best painting, sculpture and graphics collection the Aosta Valley Autonomous Region ever gathered since 1948. Some majestic monumental trees, including a redwood measuring more than 36 meters of height, form a wide large park around the building, designed by the Turinese landscape architect Giuseppe Roda. - 4.0 Castello di Aymavilles (89 reviews)
-Not to be missed
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Castles • Art Museums
Built on a hill at the mouth of the Cogne valley, the Aymavilles castle is easily recognizable for its elegant structure: four imposing circular towers, crowned by battlements, are placed at the corners of the central building, as if to protect it. The castle, whose origin dates back to the twelfth century, has undergone massive changes over the centuries, gradually abandoning its initial defensive function to transform itself in the eighteenth century into a refined stately home, surrounded by a large park. In 1970 the complex was sold to the regional administration, which carried out major restoration and renovation of the interiors and exteriors, thus highlighting the eighteenth-century characteristics of the residence, which anticipated the Rococo style in the Aosta Valley. Today the manor is presented with renewed splendor, strongly characterized by the double presence of imposing medieval towers and smooth eighteenth-century surfaces. See more..

"Vivre Chatel-Argent” is an itinerary that winds its way around the Chatel-Argent fortress, that, with its 15-metre-high tower, dominates the village of Villeneuve: the trails in the greenery lead to Saint Mary Church, a Romanesque church rising up on an Early Christian settlement, an imposing donjon and XII century Saint Columba chapel. -magico
Spent 1-2 hours Ancient Ruins • Castles
See more..
- 4.0 Castello Di Villa (5 reviews)
-Antico maniere ✨
Historic Sites • Castles
In definitiva, consigliato!! See more..

-Escursione ex Madonnina e deviazione castello di Chatelard
Castles
See more..
