Turnu Monastery, Southwest Romania, Romania

4.5 (28 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #1 in Southwest Romania Points of Interest & Landmarks

A real gem off the beaten path

I've seen many monasteries but this location is different, as in extremely spectacular. Striking contract between the white monastery buildings and the mountains surrounding them. Very picturesque indeed. The road leading to it is also beautiful, right by the stunning Olt river, it is quite a treat to drive to it. There is also a small train station serving the monastery. If you are driving along Olt or going to Calimanesti you must make a small detour and stop here for a couple of hours, you will not regret it!

    Old and nice monastery
a monastery where you can see the old cells, dug in the rock, of an immaculate white, full of flowers, full of history! the road from Caciulata is beautiful, it passes over the olt dam and there are also several tunnels dug in the rock
