... of faith in the Jiu Gorge ...
First thing first - it is not in Targu Jiu !!! - it is 30 Km outside of Targu Jiu. (something is really wrong with the map positioning of landmarks that is certain). Now back to the place itself - it is a monastic establishment in the gorges of Jiu river , 32 km out of Targu Jiu and 25 from Petrosani. Established in the XIX century it is relatively new, but well know in the area. Situated right next to the road, with a generous parking lot, there is no visiting fee, but as always donations are very welcome. When visiting, please remember , you are entering a place of prayer so dress appropriately. In the very nice garden, or courtyard if you like, there are 2 churches, both opened to the faithful and tourists alike, both nicely decorated with painted interior, in genuine orthodox tradition, so for sure you'll find plenty to see here. Overall a very nice place, if you are in the area you can stop for a while.. it will be at least, an interesting experience.

Nice Monastery
Very nice old orthodox monastery that you can find it in the way to Targu-Jiu, close to the exit from the defile of river Jiu (Jiu Valley). You can enjoy some peace and tranquility here but on Sunday the place is pretty crowded as many people come here for Sunday mass. Definitely worth a stop if you are passing through the area.
