Craiova's Art Museum, Southwest Romania, Romania

4.5 (87 reviews) Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #3 in Southwest Romania Speciality Museums

Small but with many good exhibits

Unbelievable- thought somehow small, you can find known artists and sculptures. The "kiss" - the original is there!

    Excellent
You can't miss this place when you come see Craiova. The building in which the museum is located is a beautiful palace close to the city centre, and mostly empty so there is no need to deal with crowds or long waiting lines. The permanent collection displays an impressive variety of Romanian paintings as well as some sculptures, most notably a few by Constantin Brancusi. Currently on the museum grounds there is being built a glass structure that will house an exhibition dedicated solely to Brancusi - I am most looking forward to when it will be opened and I will surely come visit next time I'm in Craiova.

A Pearl of Art Museums in Romania
This museum is a very rare and beautiful combination between a superb architecture and a gorgeous ensemble of art collections. Paintings and sculptures of famous artists from Romania and from Europe, from different ages and from all the important art movements and, of course, a special hall for the immortal Brancusi. At the first floor is located an exquisite conference room where you can see a pair of Venice mirrors on opposite walls, with the almost infinite reflection from side to side. I visited Bruckental Museum in Sibiu, the Art Museum in Constanta, in Cluj, in Ploiesti, in Brasov and of course the National Art Gallery in the Royal Palace in Bucharest, but none of them gave me that perfection sensation from The Art Museum of Craiova. Like a classical piece of Mozart, sparkling of joy and beauty, with a simplicity appearance.
