  1. 4.5 Semenggoh Nature Reserve (3.399 reviews)
    - Great experience
Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas

Going to Semanggoh Nature Reserve was my first experience to see orangután in their natural habitat. I wasn’t sure what to expect going to a nature reserve. It was very touristy as they have two feeding times per day and only allow you to visit at those times. Suggest to arrive 30mins prior to the times advertised to be safe and arrive to the feeding area. We saw Annuar (a 24 yr old male) down on the feeding platform, who was very impressive with his large cheek pads and his long hair is gorgeous. Could easily pass for a shampoo commercial! And we saw a mother with two little ones up on the ropes. Wouldn’t been nice if everyone stayed quiet yet people kept talking which took away a little of the atmosphere, yet I was still happy with my first orangutan experience. Highly recommend if in Borneo. See more..

    Crocodile Farm image
Iam a crocodile lover so went to this place late afternoon and ig took approximately 30mins from Miri town. Very few people during my visit and there wasn't any crocs show available. The park earn additional income by charging visitor's buying nuts, bananas for monkey, taking pics with baby crocs, albino snake and feeding crocs. There is a Arapaima Gigas being reared in the lake but absolute invisible due to large pond and dark view. The state government could improve on upgrading the park by getting someone expertise in the field. See more..
  5. 5.0 Penan Peace Park Long Kerong (22 reviews)
    - Awesome cultural and jungle experience

Penan Peace Park Long Kerong image
Picnic with the Penan organized a shirt trip for me several years back and it is still one of my all time favorite travel experiences. Getting there takes some effort but that is part of the fun... small plane, 4WD, longboat upriver. The guides and family I stayed with made this an unforgettable experience with their stories and their bushcraft skills are amazing. I went into the forest for four days looking at distant mountain ranges, seeing some of the remnant big trees that have not been cut down in other parts of Sarawak and generally living off the land. This is a great opportunity to experience another way of life in a small way while also supporting local people in the way they want to craft their lives. See more..

  7. 4.5 Piasau Nature Reserve (6 reviews)
    - A great place to spot hornbills

    Piasau Nature Reserve image
This a great reserve not too far from Miri centre. A Grab drive to the reserve is less than RM10, or one can walk to the reserve if time permits (around an hour and a half's walk from the centre). The area around the turn off to the boat club is said to be a good place to see hornbills. It took me no time to spot a couple and following them around let me see them in close proximity. It almost looked like the birds weren't scared to come close. See more..
