4.5Castello Sforzesco(13.5k reviews) - Don't Be Dazzled By Duomo And Miss Sforzesco Monday: Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Castles
This is anything but a run-of-the-mill museum. I walked around the entire castle the day before my visit, eyeing its construction and seeing if there were any good external photo opportunities. There were. The entire day of my visit was spent wandering the internal courtyards, going in and out of different museum collections, and taking time out for a break and lunch onsite. The castle's history is as interesting as the stories of the numerous items it houses today. Castello Sforzesco easily rivals Duomo di Milano as a destination on any tourist's Milano itinerary. It has such a wide variety of exhibits that almost anyone will find something of interest, unlike is often the case with a museum dedicated to a specific topic.See more..
4.5Castello Scaligero(4.682 reviews) - Stunning Views from the Keep Spent 1-2 hours Castles
From the outside the castle is the centre piece of Sirmione. It is lovely to walk around and so we decided to go in. We went along quite early in the morning and there wasn't any queue when we went in. There is not much of note inside the castle and the information boards are mainly about the structure of the castle and the rebuild and not really much about the history. What is worth it though is the stunning views from the top. Not only do you have fantastic views over Lake Garda but also you really see the peninsula. We went to the castle after we had boated around Lake Garda so we could also point out different places we had been. wow just wow for the views. The climb is not for anyone that cannot climb and decent a mountain of stairs though.See more..
This is a great place to go with friends or family, or even alone. You are going to take amazing pictures specially if the day is sunny and bright. In my opinion, you should go with time, around two hours so you can walk around and in the castle. See more..
4.5Castello di Vezio(1.057 reviews) - One of the best views ever seen Spent < 1 hour Castles
This is well worth the walk. We were planning our route on google maps and then when we arrived at Varenna saw a map which showed a small path that takes you right to the Castello Di Vezio and that was much faster than the way google maps was suggesting. There was a small fee to get into the castle area but it was so worth it and I recommend everyone to go up here if they are in Varenna. The view is simply magnificent. See more..
4.5Rocca di Angera(1.039 reviews) - Fantastic Castle Monday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Castles
The Angera Fortress stands majestically on a spur of rock that dominates the southern shore of Lake Maggiore, on the Lombardy side. Placed in a strategic position for the oversight of movement and trade, this property initially belonged to the Visconti family and was bought by the Borromeos in 1449. It is now the perfectly harmonious result of five different buildings: the tower, or Torre Castellana, the Scaligera wing, the Viscontea wing, the Giovanni Visconti tower, the Borromeo wing. The hall of Justice is a surprising room, entirely frescoed shortly after the battle of Desio in 1277 by "Maestro di Angera", where human affairs are related to astrological influences. Founded in 1988 by Princess Bona Borromeo Arese, the Museum of Dolls and Toys shows more than one thousand pieces among dolls and toys crafted since XVIII. Outdoors, next to the ancient church, is the Medieval Garden: medicinal plants grow next to ornamental plants.See more..

At the top of the highest hill in Solferino lies a majestic building 23 meters high dating back to 1022. Defined as “The spy of Italy” due to its strategic location, this fortress is surrounded by a vast park. Relics discovered on the battle field are preserved inside this fortress, which was acquired and restored by the Association. Moreover, documents relating to the history of the Fortress and of the Mint of Gonzaga in Solferino are displayed inside and along the wooden stairs that lead to the panoramic terrace. Before getting to the terrace a large room opens up and here we can find portraits of Victor Emmanuel II and Napoleone III and for this reason it is named “The Sovereigns’ Room”. See more..
