You've not been really been to the equator unless you come here.
Definitely a place to visit if only for the bragging rights that you've been to the equator and that you've stood on both the northern and southern hemispheres at the same time. Incidentally Pontianak is the only city in the world that sits right on the Equator. We are told by the caretaker that twice a year, 21st -23rd March and 21st - 23rd September, around noon for 5-10 minutes, a unique natural phenomenon occurs where everything around the monument loses its shadow entirely. So this would be a great time to come and experiment. Best of all this interesting place is free and doesn't take much time to go around. You can also get refreshing coconut drinks at a stall nearby.

The Equator
Nothing much to tell in the Equator monument, but you can have a picture with the background of it and turn on your latitude-longitude coordinate info on it. It'll shows the latitude of the Earth's equator is, by definition, 0° (zero degrees) of arc. There's several stores selling souvenirs, food and beverages, as well as several snacks corner and public toilet (which I wouldn't go there if I mustn't). The interesting part was the Kapuas river at the back side of the area, with wooden pedestrian path and the view of sunset in the evening. It's a nice place to watching sunset or passing by boats and cargo ships during the evening. The wind breeze so well. A good place to having some pictures, as well as hunting some. But I don't think the place is disability friendly since there are several stairs, but mostly flat ground. The entrance fee is IDR 2K/person and additional fee for vehicle parking.
