Lantau - Big budda, Poi Monastert and Tai O Fishing village

Arrive using Train from Hong Kong Island! During weekdays it is less crowded than weekends. My suggestion is go by cable car and then you decide if you return by cable car or bus. Bus is cheaper but takes around 50 mins while cable it is only 35 mins. Arrive early! if you want to take pictures to big buddha with too many people. To go to Tai O, you can take the bus from the big buddha, just be aware, buses are small and sometimes there is a big line and the bus departs every hr. you can go by yourself or by tour.

    Take a Bus
We took a First Ferry out of Central pier 6 to Lantau Island, Mui Wo Village. From there a bus will drive 40 minutes to the Big Buddha. I preferred the tour of the island by bus over using the 360 cable car, and I was able to use my Octopus card for the Ferry and the bus.

Half an hour away from the city, you will find this island full of nature and beautiful
It's so close to the city and even where the HK airport is, you can find the most scenic hiking trails, fishing village, beautiful beaches and good variety of restaurants all in one. The island is big and better to plan out your day on what you want to do. One cannot see everything in one day and can spend different days on different things to do. it's more than just the shopping mall and Disneyland.
