This was a day out trip with other foreign workers that lived in Daqing. The rafting was one of the highlights of the trip but the Dragon Boat Racing certainly had us all working hard, particularly since the boats didn't have rudders! Although the review asks when I visited there, it was 5 years ago but that date does not compute. Heming Lakes is a summer holiday camp as well and there are cottages you can rent for days or weekends. On the lake there are a few crazy Chinese games you can play with war boats that shoot water cannons from the decks. Swimming, boating, rafting and then there is the customary Chinese Restaurant there. This was a huge place that usually caters for functions but was certainly a class above most places in the area. Another aspect of the trip is the drive there through farm country and hectares of cornfields and small villages where there was barely enough room for the bus to pass especially when local market stalls encroached well onto the very poor roads. The rafts came in three different classes as well. The basic raft has plastic chairs in which you sit as the oarsman wends his way through the reeds. The second class in which the chairs are a little more comfortable, then the upper class where the whole seating area is covered with mosquito netting. A glass of wine, cheese and salt crackers would be an added delight as the trip is the epitome of peace and serenity!See more..
