Alter Elbtunnel, Hamburg, Germany

A Nice Walk
The Elbtunnel is one of the nicest ways to cross the river in Hamburg and the entrance is located near bridge 6 in Landungsbrücken. Entry is free and you have elevators and stairs to get down but beware that the tunnel is closed from 7 p.m. The length is about 1 km and and you could either walk or cycle (you need your own) across. The view of the city from the other end is spectacular and there is an actual observation deck with some boards describing the history of the city and the port.

A technological masterpiece. Enjoy the fish on the other side of the Elbe-River
A technological masterpiece. You can still feel what it must have been like back then: to stand in front of the tunnel portal on foot, by car, or in a wagon, drive down and then walk to the other side below the Elbe. Two tubes, with a pleasant coolness. And on the other side the counterpart. We recommend to take the freight elevator (old - three of them), not the passenger elevator (which is new), or to go down on foot. This is what makes the experience perfect. The tunnel tubes bear witness to another time: beautiful tiles with sea motives. Narrow lanes, one in each direction. You should eat your fish sandwich on the other side of the Elbe and enjoy the panoramic

Steinwater cruise terminal to Landsbrucken
Great cut through from the centre to the Steinwater Cruise terminal to my MSC Cruise ship, took me about 30 minutes. The tunnel itself is amazing to walk through and full of pedestrians and cyclists. Free to enter and about 500 mt walk under the river. Entered from Landsbrucken and just take the old lift down, not much on the other side but worth looking at the tunnel and if you need the Steinwater cruise terminal it is excellent
