4.5Doi Suthep-Pui National Park(544 reviews) - Great view of old city Sunday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours National Parks
Nice viewpoint of Chiang Mai and old city. Visited just before sunset in hopes to catch a beautiful sunset but the viewpoints faces the opposite direction. Nonetheless, worth the little trip up to the park. There is a foreigner entrance fee (40 baht) but they did not check the tickets. See more..
4.5Pha Chor(104 reviews) - Close Up Views National Parks • Geologic Formations
Transport seemed challenging, so I got a driver to bring me to both Doi Inthanon National Park and Mae Wang National Park within the same day. The entrance fee was 100 baht per person, and 30 baht per vehicle. From carpark 3, it was a 15 to 20 minutes' climb (where you could choose to take the creek trail or walk on the elevated bridges) to reach the canyon. Upon reaching the canyon, there were various platforms for close-up views from different angles. The ranger at the canyon was very enthusiastic about helping visitors take photographs against the backdrop. There was a lack of English panels to explain the natural phenomena, but the canyon looked grand especially during the Golden Hour in the evening. The canyon was tall but did not cover an expansive area, so visitors have to manage their expectations - I enjoyed the view but that may be because it was my first time seeing a canyon.See more..
This national park is just 10km from fang. A short ride out through the villages. Once through the gate you pay 100baht to enter. The hotsprings and mineral baths are incredible. Bring along some eggs to boil in the water and enjoy eating them watching the big geyser. A beautiful place and must see when in fang.See more..

Defo worth the drive and entry is only 110B and gets you into the hot springs as well as seeing the waterfall. I would recommend women wearing a Tshirt and shorts over their swimwear when using the hot spring. Most local women were covered up and so we felt a bit disrespectful in our bikini's when we realised. It wasn't a problem and there are no signs but as a visitor I like to be as respectful as possible See more..
4.0Opkhan National Park(27 reviews) - Southern alpine scenery 30 minutes from Chiang Mai National Parks
Although I have been living in Chiang Mai for 5 years, and have cycled to the ranger station several times, I only a few days ago went for the great hike into the gorge. I would not in my dreams have expected a scenery like this, reminding me of Maggia Valley in Ticino, Switzerland. There are rocky parts, and there are sandy bays, ideal for kids' play. The hike is a circuit of a little more than 2km, very nice indeed, see photos. Further up the main valley are 2 rural villages, the last one with a wonderful little temple, worth a visit. Opkhan National Park has several entry points. This here is very near the so called "Grand Canyon", with a good road leading up the valley.See more..

4.0Op Luang National Park(20 reviews) - leisure walk at Op Luang National Park Spent More than 3 hours National Parks
My husband and I drove from Central Chiang Mai and it took us a little less than two hours to the park. There was an entrance fee of 200Baht per adult and a parking fee of 30baht to be paid at the entrance. It wasn't crowded on the day we visited. The tourist information centre was run down and there was no map provide. The posters on the walls are mostly faded. we were abit put off at first. Then we followed the self guided trail and walked round the park. The waterfall was beautiful and plenty of picture taking spots scattered around the park. we walked up the trail and along the way, adequate signage was seen. there were ancient drawings of the wall as well as caves. the trail was paved with dried fallen leaves and it was beautiful. it was abit slippery when walking on the leaves but we managed. overall it was totally worth coming.See more..
Not quite what I expected, limited gardens and apart from a few flower beds , only trees and fruit shrubs. Pleasant enough grounds but hardly any signs in English, no maps etc but camping ground looked good and small "resort" type chalets to hire. Perhaps the most interesting thing is the incredible road from Mae Wang to the centre. Visited 10th Feb and due to the dry season not much life in the plants. Coffee and drinks available on site but for food you need to go to clearing in the woods just outside. No entrance feeSee more..
