Monte Hacho, Ceuta, Spain

4.5 (34 reviews) Spent Ranking #8 in Ceuta Mountains • Points of Interest & Landmarks

A great walk.

We walked around the hill clockwise and were able to enjoy another side to this tiny territory. The Hilltop and adjacent forts now offer some access and you get a great view if Gibraltar ( if its clear ) .Monte Hacho is one of the two pillars of Hercules and well worth the several hour hike.

Great views from the viewpoint by the Chapel of St. Anthony on Monte Hacho.
We took a taxi to the viewpoint beside the Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua on Monte Hacho (up a steep road with lots of switchbacks). The viewpoint was a curved concrete overhang with a compass design tiled floor. We were able to see across the Strait of Gibraltar to the Rock of Gibraltar. When we were in Gibraltar a few years ago we weren't able to see across to the African coastline due to fog so it was great to have a clear sunny day this time. There were also good views of Ceuta, our cruise ship and the coastline. The peaceful little chapel (Hermitage de San Antonio de Padua) was right beside the viewpoint so I went inside for a brief visit - lovely. Then we drove around the peninsula and Ceuta, but that turned out to be my favorite view.

    Good vantage point. Great views.
Not far out of the City- great for walkers or cyclists. Some small old forts and a lighthouse. Also a huge cross- no doubt a testament to Catholicism but not very subtle when Islamic Morocco surrounds u around coast ??
