Biserica Sfântul Anton - Curtea Veche, Bucharest, Romania

The oldest church in Bucharest
Founded in 1559, it’s considered the oldest church in Bucharest. It’s been in the great fire of 1847 and restored in later years. Very lovely stone and facade and beautiful interior makes a pleasant visit if you are in old town. Near the church there are also the remains of one of the Vlad’s palaces (the sight was under construction when we visited).

Beautiful Orthodox Church
This was the first church I visited in Bucharest as it was nearly adjacent to my hotel, Europa Royale. It was just a two minute walk. As with so many churches this was built on the site of an original wooden church. This church served as a chapel for the Romanian Royal Court. It is also refereed to as St. Anthony and Annunciation Church. The interior is moderately ornate in true orthodox fashion. As with so many churches there is an architectural, historical and religious interest. Worth the few minutes it takes to view it.

Excellent church with good museum
It is amazing to discover this was moved under the communist regime. It is a a living church with a great history. The museum is well worth a visit and it has a well-stocked bookshop. A lovely quiet oasis in the centre of the city.
