Undervalued

I think everyone knows, by now hopefully, that if you go there on a nice or a long weekend you can expect about a million people there. So don't complain. but It is still a beautiful spot, and a very rewarding hike for all skill levels. There are a few hidden gems in this area that 99% of people lever see. I wrote about it in blog post 5 Waterfalls Around Calgary ;)

    Awesome Hike
Based on reviews I saw we decided to get there early as parking becomes more difficult as the day goes on, and that was useful. We got to the trail about 9 am on a Saturday. We took a picture of the trail map and then proceeded to the trail. We took the hard trail, which is where you get the best views. The trail was somewhat difficult in places, but I think most people in reasonable shape can handle it. It had rained the night before so there were spots that were muddy and some spots where you had to stop on the rocks to keep your feet dry. We didn't have proper hiking shoes, so if you do, it wouldn't be an issue. We went past the lake and followed some steep stairs up to the top. We paused for a bit to watch the mountain climbers, that was pretty cool. The trek to the top is fairly steep, but the steps help. Take your time, you'll be fine. When we came back down to the lake, you have the option of going back the way you came or switch over to the easy trail. We opted for the easy trail as we'd already seem the sites and it was getting pretty busy, so we felt it would be less crowded. I'm glad we did as the easy route is gravel and very wide. The walk down is easy and the traffic was lite. There are bathrooms at the parking lot level, seemed fairly clean to me.

Take the “harder” moderate trail! A little pain for a LOT of gain ❤️
The little bit of extra effort in taking the moderate trail is worth gold on this hike. Taking the easy trail you will miss everything! And in my opinion it’s actually harder. It a gravelled road sure, but it’s straight up the mountain with zero to see, except trees. I think most people take it down after they’ve done the moderate hike up. The moderate hike seems like more of a gradual climb because there is so much to see along the way!!! All of a sudden you’re at the top, looking at a waterfall and saying oh my gosh! Look where we started! From that point on it gets a bit trickier but still well worth the effort. I am by no means in shape, probably 75 lbs overweight, so if I can do it, you can do it!
