On the outskirts of Montevideo within Canelones Department and in the middle of a half urban half rural area is this gem by all means. A wonderful visit of this ancient winery, still a family business which makes the attention to be almost personal. The visit can include lunch in lovely facilities which were the old barn of the original winery. Menu is fixed but contemplates especial food restrictions. I do not drink but my husband does so I have visited wineries where we live and had the tours, that being said this was vary more enlightening and informative than others. The grounds are beautiful and lush and a gourmet lunch was served with his tastings. You do have to prearrange the meal but it was worth it. Family owed with lots of history. See more..

We were at the winery last Friday, September 8th, 2017 for a degustation with lunch. We were a group of six and had a wonderful time. The tour with Franco was very nice and the food and degustation was very good, inspite of the fact that the location and menu had to be adapted by the winery because an event. We also bought lots of wine to bring for family and friends as a gift. However we felt unhappy when we found the same wines much cheaper at all of the supermarkets in Montevideo. We bought six bottles of Viejo wine at U$30 dollars each ( UY870) and at the supermarket was U$15,50 dollars (UY450) and the Merlot wine we bought three bottles at U$18 dollars (UY 522) and it was U$ 9 dollars each (UY260) at the supermarket, as examples. Almost half of the price. We regret that after such a good experience we ended up with this bad feeling. See more..

It seems like the big three vineyards in Uruguay get all the attention (Bouza, Juanicó, and Pizzorno) but this one deserves it. Not corporate, beautiful setting, staffed by passionate people who love what they do, and AMAZING wine and food. We did the six course wine lunch and loved it. It was less expensive than the other vineyards, and it was an amazing meal. I was especially grateful that it was easy to get a vegetarian lunch. I must commend Paula for giving the tour in English as well as Spanish. I also must note the wonderful transportation provided by Fernando, recommended by the vineyard. Friendly, with dog in tow, he returned immediately when we realized the second vineyard we planned to visit was closed. In sum, I have visited vineyards all over the world, and this is what they are all about. GO. See more..

If you can schedule your visit on Wednesday or Saturday (the only two times the church is open to the public) it’s worth a visit and the approximately 1 hour drive from Montevideo. The most splendid wine experience! We came back to Uruguay three years later just because of the beautiful Preludio! The Experience Deicas is gorgeous, they served the second best lamb I’ve ever tasted (the very best one was at a hotel across the street from the Dubai museum). The beach, the rambla, restaurants, stores and services are particularly good from many standpoints. More of a middle class resort compared to Punta del Este, it is relatively close to Montevideo. While not as striking a Piriapolis, Atlantida is more convenient for year-around living since more stays open through the off season and for English speakers seems to have a larger or at least more active expat community. Having checked nearby towns (Las Toscas, Parque del Plata, La Floresta, Costa Azul and Bello Horizonte) the prices of all are quite high in the summer season (December-March with the peak in January) so a rental for a month could easily be $2000-5000 but then year-around lease $600-1000. Cuando era chica, mis veranos los pasaba en Punta del Este y en Parque del Plata. Lo que más disfruté y los mejores recuerdos, son de Parque del Plata.
Un balneario tranquilo donde se puede descansar y veranear de lo mejor. La playa es hermosa y se puede variar con el arroyo. En la mañana íbamos siempre a la playa y de tarde, luego de la siesta, al arroyo.
Los bosques también son hermosos. Alguna tarde media fresca, ideal para una cabalgata o andar en bici.
