   We booked our tour for Saturday morning at 9 AM in the off-season so it was my wife and myself and the guide. With our limited knowledge of Spanish we set out for one of the most amazing days yet in Uruguay. Our guide was very patient with us and very knowledgable in the mining of amethyst. He took us out to a smaller family owned Mine site which was located down a few bumpy gravel roads and across a couple of rivers which had flooded over the road and made for a bit of fun getting across. We had to wait at the mine site for the caretaker to put away the guard dogs which were the size of small horses,as he explained to us people tresspass and steal the raw amethyst from the mine site. After the mine tour we drove over to the family factory where all the stone is cut,polished and packaged to ship around the world. We met a few members of the family and they were very hospitable and very informative as to the process it takes to deliver it to the market. I'll let my pictures tell the rest of the story.    Es un lugar que vale la pena visitar. Se pueden ver las minas a cielo abierto y de galería. Conviene coordinar con anticipación desde el Hotel Casino para aprovechar mejor el tiempo. Se asigna un guía y se provee de equipo necesario para el ingreso. See more..

   Un paseo maravilloso para quien es sencible a la observación de paisajes y de fauna. Se encuentra en la confluencia de los ríos Cuareim (o Quaraí) y Uruguay. Desde el mangrullo se ven las costas de Corrientes (Argentina) y de Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil). Algunas aves que pudimos ver, las conocíamos solo por fotos o, lamentablemente, por ejemplares en cautiverio. Es muy reconfortante saber que su habitat ahora es área nacional protegida. El monte nativo también es hermoso, con Ibirapitás enormes y antiguos, entre otros. Las galerias que forman son lugares frescos y llenos de vida. See more..
