    Whidbey Island Distillery image
Whidbey Island Distillery is a family owned business run by three generations of the Heising family. We set out in 2009 to make distilled spirits on Washington's own Whidbey Island, and in September 2011 we sold the first bottle of our Loganberry Liqueur. Bev and Steve Heising bought 9 acres of beautiful Whidbey Island hillside in 2009. They renovated existing buildings to include a distillery building (the Bunker), a residence (the Bunk House), a tasting room, and other multi-use buildings on the property. Since then the Whidbey Island Distillery has become a recognized producer of some of finest spirits in the world. Among numerous awards, our Blackberry Liqueur holds a 98 rating by the Beverage Testing Institute making it the highest rated spirit (of any kind) produced in North America. See more..

    Double Bluff Beach image
We felt the parking was tight but we got a spot after turning back and trying again after seeing several cars leave. This beach was awesome. We walked in it during low tide so we were able to see a ton of sand dollars, shells, and rocks. It was great. We had great views of Mt. Rainier too. It was our favorite beach we visited. See more..

    Double Bluff Brewing Company image
My wife and I stopped in for a flight of beers recently. (OK it was really just me while my wife shopped nearby.) I'd seen this place previously on other visits to the area but the timing wasn't right. I made a point of visiting on this trip to Whidbey Island and was very happy I did. I got a flight of 4 beers (5 oz pours) and sat outside on a nice late summer day enjoying the cool breeze. The beers are very good and I'd definitely stop here again when we have family in town. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy a cold beer(s). This place is definitely worth visiting when you are on the island. See more..

My son and his family go here often, so when we visited last week they wanted to show us their favorite spot. So glad they did! I love history and this was in great shape with cannons still in place. Large area to fly kites and let the kids run. There is a fee but not sure how much. Park Rangers were checking cars to make sure they paid and had receipt. Lots of trails to explore. One leads down to beach area. We saw a pod of Orca whales going by just as we got there. Well worth the drive or there is a ferry. If driving you can enjoy Depception Pass just short distance away which is a must see if in the area. See more..

This was our second time doing the hike. It was fairly easy and the views were breathtaking on a beautiful Sunday morning. If you end up walking along the beach on your return, do note that there isn't an actual trial, so you are walking on the sand/rocks, which got a little tiring on my feet and knees. See more..

    - Great beach for Clamming
    State Parks
    Double Bluff County Park image
This is our visit to the Seattle area for clamming. It is also our first try for clamming. We make sure that the tide was at least negative 1.5. According to the locals, the best area was about 1/4 mile walk from the parking area, near the bluff. We arrived at the beach about 1 hour before the low tide and saw the tide was in deed low and going out. The area was more rocky and full of green sea weed. When we see water shooting out and we would start digging close to the spot. We were successful at our first try and caught enough clams for a good meal. See more..

    Speciality Museums
Island county Historical society Museum image
When visiting Coupeville recently with my daughter and teenage grandchildren , we wandered into this museum. It’s located on the waterfront with million dollar views. It was staffed by an older gentleman who was very knowledgeable and accommodating, undoubtedly a volunteer who loves his job! Pamphlets about the area were available. We didn’t spend a lot of time as there was construction going on on the roof, pretty noisy. However, this museum looks so well put together we will return later this year and have a proper look. Thank you, all who volunteer to make this a fascinating and inviting place! See more..

    Chocolate Flower Farm image
The farm is just setting up when we visited so there were few flowers and the gardens were still off limits. But Marie, the owner, paused her duties to give us a personal tour and way more attention than we deserved. She was the delightful part of the visit. Well, she and the goats. We fed the goat ships and listened as she regaled us with the plans for the farm this summer and next. Lots of new projects including camping, snack barn, cut flowers and lots of other stuff. It's a pretty setting near town and totally worth the trip. We'll be back later this Spring when everything is in bloom, for sure. See more..

  28. 4.0 South Whidbey Island State Park (46 reviews)
    - Trails are even more magical on a foggy or drizzly day
    State Parks
South Whidbey Island State Park image
South Whidbey State Park is smaller and less well-known than Deception Pass but has a charm of its own. It is wetter and sandier at South Whidbey so that hikes in the woods take you through areas where ferns are huge and lush and the sound of water dripping and flowing and the shafts of sunlight filtering through the old growth forest make for a setting reminiscent of the Ewok's planet or Ferngully. The beach is sandy and walkable for long distances at lower tides. The drawback is that the beach is only accessible by a mile long trail that is somewhat steep on the return. Thus it is not a great choice for hikers in poor physical condition. I have never camped there but they seem to have good facilities. See more..
