    Silver Streak Zipline Tours image
We were a group of 5 ranging from ages 13 to 71 and without exception everyone had a fantastic time thanks to the guys at Silver Streak and the amazing ziplines they offered. We did them all including the Big Daddy. The staff were very professional and dedicated to making sure our experience was a great success. The ziplines were all exciting and got better with each succeeding line. I highly recommend Silver Streak Zipline Tours to anyone considering this type of event while in the great little berg of Wallace. Happy Zipping. See more..
  2. 5.0 Sierra Silver Mine Tour (248 reviews)
    - Educational & informative visit
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Historical & Heritage Tours
    Sierra Silver Mine Tour image
I knew nothing about Wallace, ID before our road trip to Glacier NP. Since we had 3 nieces (10 to 14 years old) with us, we stopped in Wallace for a few hours since it offers some fun things to do, one of which is the mine tour. We did the last tour (4pm - I called ahead, since I didn't know when we would arrive. They took my name down and I paid in person). The tour starts in the middle of town, and their store offers souvenir shopping and ice cream - we did both. $49 per family (2 adults and up to 4 kids) is reasonable. We rode on the green trolley, and Lee (former miner, now tour guide) gave the tour once we arrived at the mine. We learnt about the silver mining history and operations; there were some real tools for demonstration inside the mine. Afterward the trolley took us around town and the driver (Rob? he was funny) gave us a quick tour and history of Wallace. Overall I thought it was a well spent 90 minutes. See more..
  3. 5.0 Pulaski Tunnel Trail (96 reviews)
    - Nice short hike, watch the weather!
    Hiking Trails
    Pulaski Tunnel Trail image
I took my 13 year old son here. It is only 2 miles each way. We had some difficulties because of the snow and ice at this time of the year, but we made it with hiking shoes/boots and nothing else. Just watch your steps with snow and ice. We took a few falls where the ice was melting, water on ice isn't a pleasant mix! See more..

  5. 5.0 Eagle City Park (2 reviews)
    - Real Gold Experience!
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Mines
    Eagle City Park image
My family and I visited Eagle City Park because my wife wanted a genuine gold prospecting experience. It was truly a beautiful part of Idaho where the claim is located on Eagle Creek. The drive out there is worth the views. This experience is the real deal. After aa quick lesson on the panning equipment and use, the staff turned us loose on the claim. The staff was super friendly and helped the kids and I to a nice spot on the creek to dig up some pay dirt. My wife took to sifting and panning. Expect to be there for awhile and be prepared to get wet and dirty.. I highly recommend bringing water and food; there are limited available options at the site. The commodes are a short walk, so bring good shoes. This is genuine wilderness and there is the associated wildlife in the area (deer, elk, moose, bears, etc.), so keep an eye on your children. We didn't strike it rich, but we had a great time! See more..

  8. 5.0 North Idaho Trading Co. (1 review)
    - Old style entertaining oddity and gun shop, with antiques
    Antique Shops
This antique and gun shop was marvelous. It reminded me of the sort of places we used to find on road trips in the early 70s. The entire right side is hunting materials, mostly guns, but the rest of the shop, in its five or six maze-like rooms is a really delightful antique store/oddity museum specializing in taxidermy and the old and weird. It’s worth it just to see the displays. There is a giraffe head and a hippopotamus, along with all the elk and deer and bison and wild cats you could wish for. There is a display of skulls that invites you to try to identify them. Jackalope heads (and tails) are for sale, and there is a vampire killing kit (not for sale), a small Fiji mermaid, two headed chick, various creepy items like vampire bats, and the big display of the Mummified Mermaid, a full-sized mermaid in a case (post cards and t-shirts available!) There are plenty of old items to look at from hunting gear and hand tools (stored in a vintage jail cell) to salt and pepper shakers, and antlers by the pound. The owner was very friendly and fun to chat with and threw in my postcard for free since I bought other things. (By the way, there are some unpolished stones here that are just as nice as the ones down the street at the gem shop and cost a lot less.) I’ll come back to this shop any time I can manage it. It was a hoot. See more..
  9. 4.5 Route of The Hiawatha Trail (209 reviews)
    - So Fun, Even for Novices
Spent More than 3 hours Biking Trails
Route of The Hiawatha Trail image
The Hiawatha was the reason for us coming to the panhandle of Idaho. However, as flatlands from Texas, we weren't sure how we'd do at elevation and with tunnels and trestles. It turned out to be no worries. The bikes we rented from the operators of the local ski lift worked great, as did the helmets and lights. The lunch they packed and the ride back to the top of the mountain in their bus were value-added and really worth the minimal extra charges. See more..
  10. 4.5 Historic Wallace (142 reviews)
    - Love this town
Spent 1-2 hours Historic Walking Areas
    Historic Wallace image
I love this historic town. I'm so glad we stayed in town, so we could wander around. The history is fascinating. Everyone we came in contact with, whether locals or travelers were friendly. It must be something in the air. I loved being able to park the car at the hotel and walk everywhere. Make sure you walk up some of the historic steps, check out the center of the universe and visit the museums. Probably my only disappointment was that it seems the town rolls up the streets around 5:00 pm. We were there the 3rd week of June, which from my understanding is a little early for tourist season. Perhaps that's the reason so many places closed at 5:00. Plus it was hard to find a place to eat dinner. I was bummed the Oasis Bordello Museum wasn't open for the season yet. Not the type of place I would normally find myself going to, but after reading the reviews, I was intrigued and wanted to check it out. See more..

    - Well ran brewery
    Spent < 1 hour Breweries
    Wallace Brewing Company image
Because we went there last time, we initially decided to skip it and try something new. The Fainting Goat and 1313 brewing company were service poor so we ended up back at Wallace Brewing Company. They released a new beer, the 6:06 and my only regret is that I didn't take some to go. A few beers and clothes and off we went. Another great experience. I wish they'd add food. See more..

  16. 4.5 Center of the Universe Manhole (7 reviews)
    - Stop for the manhole cover, linger for the town itself.
    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Monuments & Statues
Center of the Universe Manhole image
As attractions go, this one is "short and sweet." As other commenters noted, all it is, is a manhole cover in the middle of the street with a outline of a miner, and the words "Center of the Universe" around the perimeter. There is also a sign on a nearby curb pointing to it. Take a picture and you are done. But it is unusual, and if the unusual intrigues you, then it's a "must see." It is not the only "Center of the Universe," though. I know of at least one other located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. But that's a different kind of attraction-sound related. The other thing that makes the one in Wallace inviting is the town itself. This is a tourist friendly town: Picturesque, plenty of interesting shops, old buildings, a nice tourist visitor center at the west end of town, unique museums, and easy parking. We've stopped at Wallace more than once in our travels. Never disappoints. See more..
