We came specifically in search of moose. We spent lots of time in the early morning and again in the evening in search of them. Just as we were driving out I spotted a big moose by the creek. We then saw her adorable tiny baby walk out toward her! We also saw a number of deer. The park is very pretty and is likely gorgeous during the leaf change in the fall. The main roads are in good shape but probably wouldn’t try most of the side roads unless your vehicle is high-clearance/4WD. Entrance fee is only $9/day. Lots of people were camping yet it didn’t seem too crowded. See more..
  2. 4.5 Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge (34 reviews)
    - Great wildlife viewing
Monday: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas

Made 3 drives through the refuge in 3 days. Great viewing of moose (11 spotted, including a mom and baby.) Saw long-earred owl, deer, fox, rabbits, pronghorn, prairie falcon, pelicans.... had the place to ourselves. Don't miss driving up to Owl Ridge.... was able to spot moose easily from that vantage point. See more..

I learned so much about North Park and the communities it encompasses. Friendly staff eager to share information and local lore. The museum is much larger than it appears. Explore all the rooms for a look into Walden's past. Great old maps of major pioneer trails and railroad systems, newspaper stories about momentous occasions, photo albums, and other archival items. Unique items related to ranching and home life include a tack room, dolls and toys, a school room, vintage stage coach and automobiles and period garments. I could have stayed an extra hour. The museum is free but accepts donations and has a nice little selection of reading material for purchase. Support small local cultural resources and visit this unique museum! See more..
