The park works hard to make the trees accessible to folks with a wide variety of abilities. Several handicapped trails, pullovers for views and trees, paved trails with plenty of benches. The trees themselves are like sculptural pieces...weathered by time and fire, twisted, scarred and beautiful. They moved me in a way I was not anticipating. The obvious fire damage somehow makes the visit more soulful. Visiting after Labor day, midweek, no trouble finding parking. Bathrooms available at popular spots, trails clean well maintained. We booked two days with Krista, one in Sequoia NP and one in King's Canyon NP...absolutely fabulous! She is fun, personable, understands customer service, communicated before and after our hikes to make sure we would be/were pleased, and most of all, she aimed to please! We had 2 teen boys, a pregnant mom, and a 78 year old grandaddy with us, and she met ALL of their needs. She would pull things out of her backpack to show us history, to make connections, to teach, and to inspire. Look no further for a private guide into these parks-she is incredible and we felt like we had made friends when we were done. We were nervous about rafting the river as we've never been rafting before. The guide made sure we knew exactly what to expect and what to do, including a full safety briefing and practice before we went down the river. Once on the water we went through a number of rated rapids including the scary sounding suicide falls - which we then paddled back up to 'surf' the rapids. The guide made sure everyone got wet without falling in and we spent over two hours working our way down the river. This is a fantastic experience and we'd recommend it to anyone visiting Three Rivers. See more..

The McKinley is one of the giant and famous sequoia trees found along the Congress Trail in the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park. The tree is 291 feet (88 metres) tall and believed to be over 2,000 years old. It is dedicated to 25th U.S. President William McKinley. You'll find a sign in front of the McKinley Tree helping to identify it amongst so many other giants found throughout the grove. The McKinley is impressive in its size, stature and structure. Stand back 30-40 years and you can capture the entire tree in your camera lens. It is a beautiful specimen. Note that a handful of other important Sequoias to see in the area.of the Giant Forest Grove. For me this river gets overlooked but is so responsible for the incredible scenery at Sequoia. The Kings River gets a lot of focus and its own name. But the river that created the most beautiful valley and the home of the Giant Forest is totally overlook. With that said it is a wild river and when roaring with spring thaw it can be dangerous. However, it creates the beautiful scenery and brings life to the flowers of the foothills. The drive up the twisting and turning General's Highway is the result of its carving. You won't find a description anywhere, in fact hard to find on any park map - but should be considered. The Hazelwood Trail is a branch off the Big Trees Trail near the Giant Forest Museum. It is partially paved, mostly level, easy walking trail that is far less crowded than the others in this area. While the Big Tres Trail features the giants, this trail brags a bit about the park's diversity, with NPS signage describing some of the foliage and features. Much less traveled and often shady so cool in the heat of the summer. See more..

Took my whole family rafting on the Class III/IV for a birthday celebration! It was a blast! We have been rafting before and this is one of our favorites. The guides were very knowledgeable and made us feel safe (very important to me as several of our family members were super nervous). Love the location as the river run is a nice balance of rapids and calm stretches. We did go early in the season when the water flow was lower. Would highly recommend. See more..

This tree is easily missed if not paying attention. It is tucked off a side trail behind the President tree but deserves a visit and photos. You can literally spend hours exploring and viewing the magnificient feats of nature. Make sure you see this one! See more..

This is the best picnic spot near three rivers. We went in the evenings to avoid the rush. A car park is available in the area. The water is cool and the sound of water flowing among the rocks is soothing. Some amazing views of the sky at sunset. Pick up picnic stuff from the three rivers market as none is available in the picnic area. See more..

We were very disappointed that Mineral King Road was closed and we couldn’t do the great hikes to the lakes. We were pleasantly surprised by this hike which started out average but had fun water over rock crossings in the last 1/2 mile and ended in great cascades over beautiful white marble rocks. Turned out to be a great hike, highlighted by beautiful wildflowers. No snakes (thank God) or ticks, possibly because it poured rain all day yesterday. Not 5 stars, only because comparing it to other Yosemite/Seqouia/Kings Canyon hikes. See more..

Not one the guidebooks highlight or rangers talk about, hut probably in the top five trails I took in the park. This trail is somewhat hidden in 2021 because the Dorst campground is closed. The John Muir trailhead is at the far end of the campground. Be sure to check with a visitor center or ranger for location. Currently you can park in a small dirt lot across from the Dorst entrance. The walk in is along paved campground roads. I followed the trail a bit, missed my turn, and happily ended up at a small stream where I could sit on a rock and cool off. I retraced my steps and soon found the turn I had missed and walked quite a distance wondering if it was worth it. But it is an interesting walk and at the end - the grove where the giants are found inexplicably with no clue to the location, is a aha moment. You can loop around the small grove, them head back. Most of the trail is shaded so you can do it in warmer weather, but that means that sunlight leaves early so allow time before light makes it difficult. See more..

Soldier's Trail leads to, or from, Moro Rock and Giant Forest Museum. It is not heavily traveled, probably because it isn't particularly scenic and most people drive to Moro Rock from the museum and Big Trees Trail. A lot of up and down walking along ridges and down/up the mountain. At times, with no signage or information posts, you wonder if you are still on the right trail. See more..
